She managed a small smile. “Always finding the bright side.”

“Someone has to.” I kissed her forehead. “Come on. Let’s try to get some sleep. Tomorrow’s going to be a long day.”

We climbed into bed, both of us positioned where we could see Grace in her bassinet. Protecting her even in sleep.

“Jeremy?” Emma’s voice was drowsy. “When this is all over–the hunters, the vampire debt, the traitors–can we just have a normal life? At least for a little while?”

“Define normal.”

“No wars. No betrayals. No life–debts to ancient vampires. Just us, raising Grace, running the pack, being boring and domestic.”

“That sounds perfect.” I pulled her closer. “And Emma? We’ll get there. I promise. Whatever it takes, we’ll get to boring and domestic.”

“I’m holding you to that.”

She tell asleep in my arms, exhausted from the longest day of our lives. I stayed awake longer, watching over my family. planning for bomorrow’s confrontation.
