My Cheating Mate

The pack house armory had never seen this level of activity. Warriors Hned the walls checking weapons, adjusting tactical gear, running through final preparations. Wolves and vampires working side by side, an image that would have been unthinkable six months ago.

Dr. Chen had delivered. Three days of carefully crafted intelligence exchanges had given us exactly what we needed–the hunters’ main base of operations. A converted warehouse complex outside Portland, heavily fortified but not impregnable. Forty -seven hunters. Their leadership structure. Their weapon cache locations. Security rotations.

Everything we needed to end this.

Tonight.

I stood at the center of the armory, checking my own gear while coordinating final details through the mind-link. Silver- resistant armor-something Lord Castellan’s people had provided, made from materials I didn’t fully understand. Weapons designed for close combat. Communication devices that worked for both wolves and vampires.

“Eastern strike team, confirm positions,” I said through the tactical radio.

“Confirmed. Twelve vampires plus eight wolves. Ready on your mark.” The vampire lieutenant’s voice was crisp, professional.

“Southern team?”

“Twenty wolves. Marcus leading. All in position.” My father-in-law’s voice was steady, calm. The man was a rock under

pressure.

“Western team?”

“Fifteen wolves plus four vampires. Elder Morrison commanding.” A pause. “Jeremy, we’re ready. Just say the word.”

I surveyed the armory one more time. Every face was focused, determined. These wolves-my pack-had already fought one major battle against Black River. Had lost fifteen good wolves. Had survived hunter attacks on our own territory.

Tonight, we took the fight to the hunters permanently.

“Five minutes to final briefing,” I announced. “All team leaders to the war table.”

As the team leaders gathered, I caught sight of Emma.

She sat in the corner of the armory on a bench, Grace in her arms, watching everything with quiet intensity. Not participating in the preparations-we’d both agreed she needed to stay behind with Grace. But present. Watching. Her eyes tracking every wolf and vampire as they geared up.

Our eyes met across the room. She didn’t smile. Didn’t try to look brave or reassuring. Just looked at me with everything she was feeling written plainly on her face.

Love. Fear. Pride. Determination.

I held her gaze for a moment, letting her know I saw all of it. Then I turned back to the war table.

“Alright,” I said, looking at Marcus, Elder Morrison, and the vampire lieutenants. “Final walkthrough. Dr. Chen confirmed the security rotation changes at 11 PM. That gives us a twelve-minute window where the eastern perimeter has reduced coverage.” I pulled up the warehouse layout on the tactical display-detailed schematics Dr. Chen had provided. “Eastern team hits first. Vampires breach through here–“I pointed to a service entrance partially hidden by shipping containers. “Your speed advantage means you can disable their communications before the rest of the compound knows what’s happening.”

The female vampire lieutenant nodded. “We’ll have their communications dead within sixty seconds of breach.”

“Good. The moment communi ations go down, southere and western teams engage simultaneously.” I traced the attack routes on the display. “Marcus, your team takes the main entrance. Elder Morrison, western doors. Once inside, we move room by room. Hunters will fight they always do. But without communications, frey can’t coordinate their defense.”

“What about the weapon cache?” Marcus asked, pointing to a room marked on the schematic. “Dr. Chen said it’s heavily secured.”

“The vampire team handles it. Lord Castellan specifically requested that honor.” I glanced at the lieutenant. “Your people deal with the weapons while our wolves secure the rest of the facility.”

“And prisoners?” Elder Morrison asked.

“Anyone who surrenders, we take alive. Hunter leadership especially-they can provide intelligence on other hunter cells operating in the region.” I paused. “But Elder Morrison, these people attacked our pack. Attacked our hospital. Targeted a newborn baby. I’m not going to pretend this is a rescue mission. Fight to win. Survive. But if they fight back-end it.”

Murmurs of agreement rippled through the leaders.

“One more thing.” I straightened, meeting every eye at the table. “Tonight, we end the hunter threat in this region. Permanently. We’ve lost wolves to these people. Lost peace. Lost security. Tonight, we take all of that back.”
