My Cheating Mate (Emma and Jeremy) novel Chapter 250

Chapter 250

Courtney’s eyes went wide. “N-not prison? Not exile?”

“The Council recognizes your age, your cooperation, your genuine remorse, and the manipulative environment you were raised in,” Madeline continued. “We also recognize the testimony of your victim, Grace Trent, advocating for rehabilitative consequences. Five years supervised rehabilitation. At the end of that period, your case will be reviewed for potential reduction or completion of sentence based on demonstrated growth and compliance.”

“I-” Courtney’s voice broke. “Thank you. Council, thank you. I’ll-I’ll do everything. It prove I can change. I promise.”

“See that you do, Miss Vex. This is your second chance. There won’t be a third.”

After the formal conclusion, Connor and I were leaving when Courtney caught up to us in the hallway.

“Grace,” she said quietly. “I heard-I heard what you said. About rehabilitation and second chances and-” She stopped.” Thank you. For not demanding they destroy me. For giving testimony that probably saved my life.”

“I didn’t do it for you,” I said honestly. “I did it because that’s what integration means. What my family has been fighting for. Second chances. Growth. The belief that people can change if given opportunity.”

“I will change. I promise. I’ll-I’ll become someone who deserves the mercy you showed me today.” She paused. “Grace, I know you’ll never forgive me. I know I’ll never be able to make this right. But I want you to know-I’m going to spend the next five years trying. Trying to be better. To understand what I did wrong. To-to become someone who wouldn’t make those choices

again.”

“Good luck, Courtney,” I said. “I mean that. Good luck.”

We walked away, leaving her in the Council hallway. Leaving her to face five years of supervised rehabilitation and the long, difficult work of actually changing.

“Do you think she will?” Connor asked. “Actually change?”

“I don’t know. Maybe. If she genuinely tries.” I leaned against him as we walked. “Connor, all I know is-destruction wasn’t the answer. Revenge wasn’t the answer. So maybe-maybe rehabilitation is. Maybe giving her the chance to become better serves everyone better than just punishing her into oblivion.”

“That’s very optimistic.”

“That’s very tired of pessimism.” I smiled slightly. “Connor, we’ve survived knife attacks and terrorist assaults and the Preservation Front. We completed our mate bond in the middle of all that chaos. We proved love is stronger than extremism. So yeah — I’m going to be optimistic that people can change. That second chances matter. That integration peans something beyond just political statements.”

“I love you,” he said. “Have I mentioned that lately?”

“Not in the past hour.”

“Then I love you. For being better than I am. For showing mercy when I wanted revenge. For being exactly who you are.” He pulled me close. “Grace, you just changed someone’s life today. Gave Courtney a chance she didn’t deserve but might actually use. That’s-that’s incredible.”

“We’ll see if it works. Five years is a long time.”

“Five years for her to prove she can change. Five years for us to build our life together. Five years to show the world that integration works.” He kissed me. “I’ll take those five years.”

“Me too,” I agreed. “Together?”

“Always together.” 1

Chapter 256

+15 Bonus

We left the Council chamber hand in hand. Courtney behind us facing her five years. Marcus Dane and Elena Frost still out there somewhere for Uncle Cas to hunt. The future uncertain but somehow less frightening than it had been.

Because we’d survived. We’d shown mercy. We’d chosen rehabilitation over revenge

And that–that felt like winning in the way that actually mattered.

Together. Always together. Building the future we’d fought for.

One second chance at a time.
