Chapter 264
“What if you’re an amazing mother who raises a strong, brave, beautiful child who helps prove integration works?” He smiled. Grace, you’re going to be incredible at this. And you’re not doing it alone. You have me. Your parents. Uncle Cas. The entire pack This baby is going to have more protection and love than most children could dream of.”
“Uncle Cas.” The thought of telling him made me smile despite the fear. “Connor, he’s going to be–he’s going to be impossible. Overprotective and demanding enhanced security and probably buying out entire art supply stores for a baby who won’t be able to hold a paintbrush for years.”
“Exactly. And it’s going to be perfect.” Connor pulled me close. “Grace, I know you’re scared. I’m scared too. We’re nineteen and about to be parents. That’s terrifying regardless of extremist threats. But I also-I also can’t wait. Can’t wait to see you with our baby. Can’t wait to teach them about pack traditions and watch Uncle Cas teach them about vampire history. Can’t wait to build this family with you.”
“You’re really not scared about Elena? About ideology being immortal?”
“I’m scared. But I’m also-determined. To prove Elena wrong. To show that our child can grow up safe and loved and completely normal despite extremist opposition. To build the future she’s so afraid of.” He touched my stomach again. “Grace, this baby represents everything Elena hates. Integration. Cross-species family bonds. The next generation who’ll think vampire uncles are normal. We’re literally creating the future she tried to destroy.”
“That’s–that’s a lot of pressure for one baby.”
“Or it’s just a baby. Our baby. Who happens to be born into a family that’s changing the supernatural world.” He kissed me softly. “Grace, we’ve got this. Together. You, me, our baby, and everyone who loves us.”
I wanted to believe him. Wanted to push past the fear and focus on the excitement. On the joy of creating life with my mate. On the future we’d have together.
“When do we tell everyone?” I asked.
“Whenever you’re ready. Today, tomorrow, next week.” He paused. “Though Uncle Cas will probably figure it out on his own within days. Vampire senses are annoyingly perceptive.” 1
“Days?” I laughed despite everything. “Connor, I’m barely four weeks along. How would he-”
“He noticed when you changed shampoo brands. You think he won’t notice when your entire biochemistry shifts?” Connor smiled. “Grace, we probably have forty-eight hours maximum before Uncle Cas shows up asking pointed questions about why you smell different.”
“That’s creepy but probably accurate.” I stood, moving to the mirror. Still looked the same. No visit: qvidence yet that everything had changed. “Connor, I’m really pregnant. We’re really having a baby.”
“We really are.” He wrapped his arms around me from behind, both of us looking at our reflection. “Grace, you’re going to be an amazing mother. This baby is going to be so loved. And yes, there will be challenges. Elena’s ideology isn’t going away. But neither is our family. Neither is the integration model we’ve built. Neither is the love that proved extremists wrong”
“I’m still scared.”
“Good. Means you understand what you’re protecting.” He kissed my temple, “But Grace, don’t let fear steal the joy). Don’t let Elena’s threats trore a prison cell stop you from being excited about our baby.”
He was right. Elena was in prison. The Preservation Front was destroyed Marcus Dane and Thomas Vex were dead. Yes, ideology persisted. Yes, there would always be opposition to integration
But there would also always be love Family: People fighting to protect what mattereit
And now now we were adding to that Creating the next generation. Prochip that integration won’t just surviving. It was thriving

I turned in Connor’s arms, looking up at his face. “We’re having a baby”
“We’re having a baby,” he confirmed, grinning now. Real joy breaking through the careful support. “Grace, we’re going to be parents. That’s-that’s Thesedible
“It’s terrifying”
“It’s both. Can be both.” He kissed me properly the time. “Come on. Let’s go tell your parents. Get the panic and excitement and overprotective response out of the way. Then we can tell Uncle Cas and watch him immediately start planning enhanced security protocols for pregnant Lunas.”
“He’s going to be impossible.”
“He’s going to be perfect. Uncle Cas teaching our baby about vampire history and art. Your father teaching them about pack leadership. Your mother showing them her garden. Nate explaining dinosaur governance.” Connor pulled me toward the door.” Our baby is going to have the most incredible, chaotic, integrated family. And that’s worth every extremist threat Elena can make from prison.”
We went downstairs together, hand in hand, to tell my parents they were going to be grandparents.
To start building the next chapter. The one where Connor and I became parents. Where our baby grew up in the world we’d fought for.
Where Elena Frost’s ideology meant nothing compared to actual love. Actual family. Actual proof that integration worked.
I was still scared. Still worried about extremist threats and bringing a baby into danger.
But I was also excited. Hopeful. Ready to prove that love was stronger than fear.
Together. Always together. Connor and me and our baby.
Building the future Elena said was impossible.
One tiny heartbeat at a time.
