My Cheating Mate (Emma and Jeremy) novel Chapter 97

Chapter 97

I found him in human form, bleeding, from multiple wounds, three mercenaries circling him like sharks. He’d shifted back- never a good sign. Meant he was too injured to maintain wolf form.

Rage exploded through me. My wolf surged forward with protective fury. These bastards had hurt my father. My Alpha. The man who’d raised me, believed in me even when I’ducked up catastrophically.

I hit the first mercenary with enough force to snap his spine. The second got my claws across his throat. The third tried to run but caught him, dragging him down.

Dad!* I shifted to human form, kneeling beside him. Dad, stay with me!

I’m okay,he gasped, though blood said otherwise. Justneed a minutè-

We need to get you out of here.I looked around frantically for help, for medics, for anyone.

No.His hand gripped my arm with surprising strength. You lead now. Finish this. That’s an order.

I’m not leaving you-

You’re not leaving me. You’re leading the pack. There’s a difference. He coughed, blood flecking his lips. Jeremy, you planned this. You made the vampire alliance. You know what needs to happen. Lead.

Two of our enforcers reached us, quickly stabilizing my father and preparing to evacuate him to the medical station we’d set up a quarter mile back.

Go,he said. Win this. Come home to Emma.

Emma. Right. Emma was waiting for me. Needed me to survive this. Needed me to come home.

I shifted back to wolf form, my mind racing. My father was down. That made me acting Alpha for the remainder of this fight.

*All teams, this is Jeremy. Alpha Richard is injured but stable. I’m assuming command. Status reports, now.* *Southern team holding. Heavy casualties but line is stable.* Marcus’s voice was strained but strong.

Eastern team has pushed deep into enemy formation. Vampire allies are devastating their ranks.* Elder Morrison sounded almost gleeful.

Western team reforming. We’ve lost eight so far.* The number hit hard Eight wolves dead already.

I processed quickly, visualizing the battlefield from the tactical maps we’d studied. The mercenaries were being pushed toward the center, exactly as planned. But they were fighting back hard, taking our wolves with them.

*All teams advance. Push them into the kill box. Vampires, can you cut off their eastern retreat?*

The female vampire lieutenant’s voice came throughnot in my head like wolf mindlink but somehow present anyway.Already on it, young Alpha.

I fought my way forward, coordinating teams through the mindlink while engaging any mercenary who came close. It was chaosblood and violence and death everywhere I looked.
