Initially, Hannah was against the idea. She didn't want anything more to do with Lionel, which was why she'd let Cherry handle him in the first place.
But now, she had to admit that Cherry had a point.
If she let him do this for her, and it turned out to be fake, he would be the one to suffer. If it was real, the bug would let them hear everything.
No matter how she looked at it, there was no downside for her.
And right now, Lionel was desperate to make amends. If she gave him this chance, he would take it. If he refused, then there really was nothing left to say between them.
All things considered, it was an excellent plan.
Cherry noticed the change in Hannah's expression and knew she was on board.
She crossed her arms, a smug look on her face, and raised her eyebrows at them.
“You know, I think you two have been going about this all wrong. So you’re getting a divorce and you’re done with the guy, but he keeps bothering you, begging for a second chance, acting like he’d do anything for you. Since he’s so eager, you should play him at his own game. He wants to do things for you? Then give him things to do.”
Cherry had been thinking about this for a while, finding their approach odd.
“You’ve been using him this whole time, over and over. Once he realizes you never actually wanted you back together—that you were just using him—he’ll see how cruel you really are. He’s divorcing you.’”
“Maybe if you use him enough, he’ll get fed up and file for divorce himself. And even if he doesn’t, you’ll keep him so busy that he won’t have time to harass you anymore!”
Hannah nodded, but before she could say anything, she saw the excited, almost gleeful look on Cherry’s face as she hurried out the door.
“Why is she so excited? Do you think she’s planning something?” Hannah asked, a little unsettled by Cherry’s unnerving enthusiasm.
“I think Lionel must have really gotten under her skin the other day. She probably felt bullied by a lunatic and now she wants revenge. It's fine by me. Let the two of them go at it!” Samuel analyzed.
“You’ve got a point. I guess it takes a psycho to deal with a psycho!”
She wished she had thought to make Cherry wear a bug back then. It would have been fascinating to listen in on a conversation between two maniacs. Then again, it might have cramped her style.
