This was Cherry’s first time doing something like this, and she had worried her acting would be clumsy. But it turned out she had a real talent for it!
And she had to admit, yelling at him felt incredibly satisfying.
“I was about to text you when Hannah showed up. I didn’t have time.”
Lionel explained, “Besides, what were you doing here anyway? If you hadn’t come, none of this would have happened.”
Hearing Lionel shift the blame, Cherry instantly became furious.
“What do you mean if I hadn’t come, this wouldn’t have happened? I came here specifically to tell you that I told Hannah you were beaten up and in the hospital, and that she seemed like she was planning to come. I wanted to give you a heads-up, but she got here before I could. How is that my fault?”
Cherry was so enraged she completely forgot she was in a hospital. She pointed at him and yelled at the top of her lungs, causing other patients’ families in the hallway to stop and stare.
Her performance was so convincing no one would ever doubt its authenticity.
Noticing the eyes on them from outside, Lionel lowered his voice. “Go and close the door.”
“Why should I listen to you? Who do you think you are? Let me tell you, we are just partners. Don’t you dare order me around. A partnership is built on equality, got it?”
Not only did Cherry refuse to close the door, but her voice grew even louder, as if she wanted everyone to hear.
“If you don't understand that, then we might as well not work together. I’m realizing you really don’t know how to read the room.”
As soon as she said that, Cherry clamped her mouth shut. A terrifying thought had just occurred to her.
So, the best option was to keep cooperating with Cherry.
The only problem was that Hannah was already suspicious. If she found out the truth, it would be a disaster.
“If you want to keep working with me, then you need to honor your promise.”
After all that nonsense, they were finally getting to the point!
Cherry raised an eyebrow. “It's time to fulfill your promise. I did what you asked and told Hannah, and she came to see you. I’ve done my part.”
She held up two fingers. “I completed two tasks, so you owe me two sets of resources. Otherwise, I’m going straight to Hannah to tell her I’m your spy. It doesn’t matter if she hates me, but it will matter if she hates you even more, right?”
