Chapter 195 Trent Lawson Threatens Their Grants

“You should not be here, Raisa, Hugo said. His voice sounded tight. He glanced toward the end of the hall, scanning for teachers. “If

Miller catches you, he will call the police. You are trespassing.”

“I need your help,” I stated.

Sofia scoffed. She crossed her arms over her faded denim jacket. The hostility in her posture matched the venom in her digital comment.

“You need our help?” Sofia asked. The disbelief dripped from her words. “You forged a document with the billionaire heir. You spent the winter formal rubbing elbows with the elite. You traded your integrity for a taste of their wealth. Ask Ryder Steinmann for help.

“The contract was a mistake,” I admitted. The confession burned my throat, but I refused to look away. “I lied to the principal about a relationship. I accept the blame for that choice. But I never lied about my test scores. I earned every single A on my transcript. I earned

the Valedictorian rank.”

“Chloe Vance holds the rank now,” Hugo pointed out.

“Because she blackmailed me,’ I shot back. She found the paper. She demanded the rank. She forced me to hand in ruined midterms yesterday. She cheated her way to the top. Are you going to let her keep it?

The question hung in the stale air. The surrounding students leaned in, listening to the confrontation. They despised Chloe Vance. The wealthy cheerleader treated the B-wing like dirt on her expensive shoes.

“We hate Chloe, Sofia said. Her jaw set into a hard line. “But you put a massive target on our backs, Raisa. Trent Lawson dumped a trash can on Liam’s desk this morning. Harper Vance laughed at us in the hallway. They think all the scholarship kids are frauds because of you. You gave them the ammunition.”

‘If you stay quiet, they win,’ I countered. The desperate fire ignited in my chest. “If you let them push us into the shadows, they will dump trash on your desks every single day. We have to fight back. We have to prove our merit.”

I reached into my front pocket. I pulled the folded college-ruled paper out. I smoothed the creases and held the document out toward

Hugo.

“What is that?” he asked. He did not take it.

“A petition,” I explained. My voice carried down the quiet corridor. “Appendix G allows a student to demand an academic tribunal. A public, verbal examination. I want to stand in front of the science faculty and take the midterms out loud. I want to prove I possess the intellect to hold the top rank.”

Sofia unfolded her arms. A flicker of genuine shock crossed her face. “A verbal test? In front of the whole department?”

“Yes. But I need student signatures,” I continued. I held the paper steady. I need fifty names. I need the board to see that the student body demands a fair assessment. If I win the tribunal, I take the rank back. I prove the East Side cannot be bought or intimidated.”

Hugo looked at the paper. He understood the stakes. He understood the profound humiliation I suffered in the principal’s office. He saw the sheer grit required to walk back into this building and demand a public trial.

He reached out. He took the paper from my hand.

He read the clear, concise paragraph at the top. He looked at the blank grid.

7 will sign it,” Hugo said.

A murmur of surprise rippled through the crowd of students.

“Give me a pen.” Sofia demanded. She stepped forward, standing shoulder to shoulder with Hugo. “If you are crazy enough to stand on a stage and recite calculus equations to the board, I will back your play. I refuse to let Chloe Vance read the graduation speech.”

I reached into my pocket. I pulled out the blue ink pen. I handed it to Sofia.

The heavy despair in my chest began to lift. The B-wing did not abandon me. They just needed proof that I still possessed the iron will to fight the system. They needed to see the smart girl from the East Side step back into the light.

Sofia clicked the top of the pen. She pressed the ballpoint against the first blank line on the paper.

A loud, sharp laugh echoed from the far end of the corridor.

The sound cut through the tense atmosphere like a serrated blade.

Sofia froze. The pen hovered a fraction of an inch above the paper. Hugo snapped his head up. The surrounding students recoiled, taking sudden, terrified steps backward.

I turned my head.

The heavy fire doors leading to the A-wing intersection swung open.

Trent Lawson stepped into the B-wing.

He wore his crisp white uniform shirt and a smug, victorious sneer. Three massive boys from the lacrosse team flanked him, acting as a physical barricade. They invaded the scholarship corridor. They crossed the invisible boundary separating the elite from the working class.

Trent stopped ten feet away. He surveyed the scene. He saw the gathered crowd. He saw the piece of paper in Hugo’s hand.

‘Look at this,” Trent mocked. His voice bounced off the battered lockers. “The suspended rat snuck back into the building. Did you forget

your mop, Petrova?”

The lacrosse players laughed. The sound carried a thick, physical threat.

“Get out of this hallway, Lawson, Sofia warned. Her voice lacked its usual fierce edge. A slight tremor betrayed her fear.
