My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 1237

“Emily, are you alright?” Rose’s voice was gentle with concern.

Emily barely glanced up, her brow pinched as she stared at her phone. Andrew’s message still lingered on the screen, and for a second, she forgot Rose was even there. Rose gave her arm a soft pat. “Emily? You stopped walking. Everything okay?”

Snapping back, Emily quickly locked her phone and tucked it away. “Yeah, I’m fine.” She took a breath, pulling herself together. “Do you want a ride home?”

Rose shook her head, smiling. “No need. I’ll just take the subway. It’s faster anyway.”

“Okay then,” Emily said, walking over to her car and opening the door. “I’ll get going. See you.”

The three of them said their goodbyes and headed off in different directions.

Emily slid into the driver’s seat but didn’t start the car right away. She picked up her phone again to read Andrew’s new message.

[My chest hurts. The wound’s still not healed.]

He was obviously fishing for sympathy.

Emily’s lips twisted into a cool little smile. Did he really think she was just going to cave? No way. She’d always been clear about what happened when Andrew got hurt saving her. She’d done everything she was supposed to do.

She typed out a reply. [If it hurts, go see a doctor. Complaining to me won’t help.]

Andrew replied almost instantly. [If you comfort me a little, maybe it won’t hurt as much.]

Emily frowned, suddenly annoyed with herself for wasting time on this. Without a second thought, she tossed her phone onto the passenger seat, started the engine, and drove off.
