Were they really that close?
It would barely take a minute to drag them to those vans.
Benjamin was right. The police hadn't arrived yet. If he forced her and Andrew into the vehicles and sped off, even if the cops showed up thirty seconds later, it would be too late. The investigation would be back to square one, and the police would be looking for a needle in a haystack.
With the sheer number of thugs at Benjamin's disposal, Emily knew exactly how a physical confrontation would end: she and Andrew would be thrown into the back of those vans.
Her mind raced. The absolute top priority right now was to stall for time. If she could drag this out until the police arrived, they actually had a chance to survive.
She stared blankly at Andrew's bleeding back.
He needed emergency surgery, and he needed it now.
Benjamin's target had always been her. She had no right to drag Andrew down with her. He had already risked his life; she couldn't ask him to sacrifice it completely.
As for the secretary, Benjamin didn't care about her. He wouldn't waste his time chasing her. The secretary could simply guide Andrew out to safety.
Emily realized that if she could buy Andrew even a fraction of a minute, it would be worth it.
In an instant, her mind was made up.
"Stop wasting breath," Andrew growled.
"Fine. Get them!" Benjamin ordered. "Focus on Emily! I don't care about the others, but Emily does not leave these woods!"
The very second the words left his mouth, Andrew braced himself to sprint in the opposite direction.
But Emily was faster.
