My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 946

For instance, Benjamin Gomez and Juliana Silva stood at the curb. A car had clearly pulled up in front of them, but neither made a move to get in. Juliana turned her head, her gaze fixed intently on Isabella Austin’s parents across the street.

Benjamin had been holding Juliana’s hand, but now his arm rested around her shoulders, gently drawing her closer. Juliana leaned into his embrace.

From her distance, Emily Blair couldn’t quite make out the expression on Juliana’s face. Still, she sensed it was probably sadness—though she couldn’t be sure.

Emily watched for a moment longer. Then Benjamin leaned down, whispered something in Juliana’s ear, and she finally looked away.

That small exchange reignited the suspicion Emily had tried to suppress.

Benjamin and Juliana had come straight here the moment they returned home. Isabella Austin’s parents lived in the neighboring row of townhouses. And Juliana’s lingering gaze on them… All these pieces together made Emily’s suspicion only grow stronger.

Eventually, Benjamin and Juliana got into the car. Emily stood up and, following the path Isabella’s parents had taken, entered the office building.

By the time she caught up, Isabella’s parents and Emma George had already disappeared from sight. Emily had no choice but to search floor by floor.

When she reached the third-floor landing, she heard Emma George’s voice coming from around the corner.

“I’m telling the truth, you have to believe me—please, I’m not lying to you.”

Emily frowned and crept closer, pressing herself against the wall to listen more carefully.

Emma’s voice trembled with urgency. “It took me so long to find you. I wouldn’t lie to you, I swear.”

Isabella’s mother cut her off, her tone cold and firm. “I don’t want to hear any more of this nonsense. If you don’t leave right now, I’m calling security.”

Desperate, Emma blurted out, “Listen to me—Isabella isn’t your biological daughter. I know where your real child is. Please, you have to believe me. I’m telling the truth.”

“What’s the problem?” Mr. Austin asked.

The young man shifted uneasily. “There was an error in the proposal—the budget figures were wrong. The developers are refusing to accept the changes, and now everything’s at a standstill. Mr. Ray’s tried everything, but he’s out of options.”

Mr. Austin’s voice was clipped. “How do you even mess up the numbers in a proposal? What are those people doing over there?”

“We’re doing everything we can to fix it—trying to negotiate with the developers, but they’re stonewalling us. They won’t even sit down to talk. I’m really sorry, sir.”

Mr. Austin lowered his voice, his patience clearly wearing thin. “We’ll head over now. Have everyone involved with the proposal waiting in the conference room.”

“Yes, sir. I’ll make the calls right away.”
