My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 950

Emily Blair wasn’t surprised by the truth—she had expected as much. Still, she couldn’t ignore the heavy weight that seemed to drag her heart down into the depths of the ocean, leaving her breathless and aching.

The daughter of the teacher who had done so much for her—someone she owed everything to—turned out to be the woman she could never reconcile with, not even if she lived a hundred lifetimes.

And Tate Vargas’s own daughter might already be gone from this world.

Emily pressed on, her voice steady. “So what happened to the biological daughter of Isabella Austin’s adoptive parents?”

Emma George’s gaze darted away, avoiding Emily’s eyes, her face clouded with panic and unease.

Emily’s voice was low, carrying quietly across the room. “Mom, please tell me. I need to know.”

Emma made to stand, as if eager to escape. “Let’s just drop it. You already know who my sister’s child is, anyway.”

Watching her mother’s retreating back, Emily spoke slowly, “If it were someone unimportant, you wouldn’t be so desperate to keep this secret.”

Emma hurried toward the door, hand clamped around the handle.

Emily called out, “Is it me?”

Emma froze, her hand still on the doorknob.

Emily repeated, “Is it me?”

Emma forced a smile as she opened the door, her tone light and unconvincing. “What are you talking about? Of course not. That’s impossible.”

“If it’s not me,” Emily followed, stopping a few feet away to watch her mother’s silhouette, “then where is Isabella Austin’s adoptive parents’ biological child now? And why… Why were the two children switched?”

Emma pushed the door open wider and leaned against the frame. “Oh, I’m exhausted. I need to get some sleep.”

“If you won’t tell me,” Emily said, her voice unwavering, “I’ll get a DNA test with you, and then with Isabella Austin’s adoptive parents as well. One way or another, I’ll find out the truth. You can’t hide forever.”

“I’m going to bed—just let me sleep!” Emma wailed, slamming the door in Emily’s face.

Emily stood there in silence for a long moment. Finally, she turned and walked back to the couch, sitting down heavily.

She was beautiful, with striking features and a figure that turned heads. Tate Vargas, recently divorced and reeling from heartbreak, seemed like the perfect opportunity.

She made sure he drank too much, then slipped into his bed. It only took once—she got pregnant right away.

Adelaide thought having his child would secure her place. She knew his only daughter would never accept her, but she never imagined Tate would be so cold. For the sake of his daughter, he abandoned Adelaide at the hospital and never once came to see her.

Ambition still burned in Adelaide’s chest, so she tried to see Tate again. That’s when she overheard him reassuring his daughter that he would never let Adelaide keep the baby.

So she ran.

She couldn’t let it go—wouldn’t let it go.

Pregnant and desperate, Adelaide found herself at the hospital, where she crossed paths with Isabella Austin’s adoptive parents at one of their prenatal appointments.

Adelaide had seen plenty of wealthy people, but it was obvious at a glance—these two were in a league she could never hope to join.
