Chapter 7
Chris and Cora froze for a moment before bursting into harsh, mocking laughter, as if I had just told the
most absurd joke.
Cora lifted her hand, that familiar condescending finger pointed straight at me again. “Emilia, are you still not
done with your little performance?”
“First you stalled for time with your lies, and now that someone’s bailed you out, you’re at it again? Do you
really think Natalie, who’s only in second place, can take down the Stevens family?”
“Do you know why the Greene family is only second? It’s because the Stevens family has been holding them
back!”
Since Chris and I divorced, his gaze toward me had become tinged with a bit of disdain.
“Emilia, out of respect for the past, I’ll give you some face. Now that you’ve paid the bill, go ahead and kneel
and apologize to Cora. That’s the end of this matter.”
I couldn’t help but feel a wave of contempt. Cora hadn’t even crawled out like a dog as she promised–and
now Chris expected me to kneel and apologize to her?
Had he lost his mind? I glanced at my watch and then curled my lips into a mocking smile, “Why don’t you
call your dad and ask if the Stevens family’s stock has dropped?”
Chris saw from my tone that I wasn’t joking and instantly grew nervous.
Just as he was about to call his father, the door suddenly burst open, and his father, wearing pajamas, stormed in, “You bastard! How did I end up with such an idiot like you?”
As Chris‘ father scolded him, he hurried over and bowed to me in apology, “Emilia, I truly had no idea… To think you were actually Shannon Stone–the heir to the foremost of the Four Great Families of New York!”
I hadn’t heard anyone mention the name in a long time. My full name was Shannon Stone, not Emilia Stone.
I had hidden my identity when I first came to Boston to quietly observe its dynamics.
I never imagined that Chris would fall for me and use every trick to make me fall for him, leading me into his
soft trap.
Chris stared, wide–eyed, first at his father, then at me.
“Shannon? Your full name is Shannon Stone? The heir of the leading family among New York’s Four Great
Families, the one who never shows her face?”
I coldly shook off his hand, and Natalie immediately stepped forward, offering me a tissue to wipe my face.

This made Chris‘ face turn pale instantly.
If he hadn’t lost his memory, he should remember just an hour ago, when he himself used a tissue to wipe
the spot I had touched.
Getting no response from me, he turned to his father.
“Dad, what’s going on here?”
Cora was also anxious, eagerly waiting for an explanation from Chris’s father. She had heard of Shannon Stone from New York but had never seen her in person.
If I really were New York, the heir to the Four Great Families of New York, she was finished–and so was the
Stevens family.
Chris’s father gritted his teeth and looked at him. “Yes, she’s Shannon Stone from the Stone family. And you- you foolish, blind fool–you chose to side with this… this woman… and offended the one person you should
have never crossed.”
