My Husband's Affair My Anniversary Gift (Lily and David) novel Chapter 135

Marina leaned a little closer, her smile never faltering. “If you want to know anything about Lily, you can ask me. I know everything about her. How many men she had…”

“Marina!” Lily snapped, standing abruptly. Her chair scraped loudly against the floor, drawing a few stares from nearby tables. Her chest rose and fell fast, anger boiling.

But before she could say another word, Carson stood too.

He stepped right in front of Marina, his tall frame blocking Lily. His face was no longer playful. His jaw clenched, his eyes burning with fury.

“Miss Laurent, I don’t care who you are or what your business with Lily is,” Carson said, his voice sharp, low, dangerous. “But you cannot insult my woman in front of me. I won’t tolerate that.”

The intensity in his tone sent chills down Lily’s spine. He looked so terrifying, so serious, even Lily was stunned. No one… no one had ever stood up for her like this before.

“What’s going on here?”

The voice was deep, familiar.

Lily’s stomach dropped.

David.

He was standing just behind Marina now, his brows furrowed, his face unreadable.

“David,” Marina quickly clung to his arm, her voice suddenly soft, innocent. “I just saw Lily and came to say hello, but she misunderstood me.”

Carson almost laughed out loud. He had seen scheming women before, but this one? This one played at a whole different level.

Then his eyes landed on David. He recognized him instantly. David Hardison. He had already read about him when he checked Lily’s background. The man who used to be her boss.

David’s eyes shifted, locking first on Lily, then on Carson. They were cold, sharp, filled with something darker. His jaw tightened, muscles flexing.

“Lily,” David said flatly, his voice cutting. “Are you really not going to change your habit?”

Lily’s breath caught. She understood his meaning instantly. He was insulting her too, saying she kept going from man to man. Her fists clenched at her sides.

Carson’s eyes flashed. He stepped closer, his arm brushing Lily’s as he stood tall.

“Mr., I don’t know what your problem with Lily is,” Carson said icily, “but you can’t insult my woman. I dare you.”

David’s head snapped toward him. His teeth ground together audibly. “Your woman? Are you sure?”

Carson didn’t flinch. He leaned slightly forward, his own fury matching David’s. “Of course I’m sure. Because she is mine.”

“David, let’s go,” Marina said quickly, tugging at his arm. She could see her plan crumbling fast. She didn’t want to push him further, not here.

David’s jaw was tight, his fists clenched, but he let Marina pull him back a step.

Lily’s eyes met his, just for a moment. Anger burned in hers. A warning. She wasn’t afraid of him. Not anymore.

But David’s eyes… his eyes were darker than night. They were filled with a silent warning of their own.

The clash of their gazes lasted only seconds, but it was enough.

Finally, David turned away. Marina clung to his arm, forcing a bright smile back onto her face as they walked off, disappearing into the other side of the restaurant with the clients.

Lily exhaled shakily, her body still tense.

Carson’s hand lingered at her cheek.

“See?” he murmured softly. “You don’t have to fight. I’ll do it for you.”

But Lily’s stomach turned. She wasn’t sure what scared her more, David’s fury, or Carson’s possessive words.
