The moment they stepped out of the restaurant, Marina kept her perfect smile plastered on her face until they were out of sight. The second the door closed behind them and the cold night air hit her skin, David ripped his arm free from her grip.
“Why the hell did you have to go to her table?” His voice was sharp, cutting like ice. His jaw was tight, his eyes blazing.
Marina blinked, caught off guard. “David…”
“Answer me!” He snapped, his voice louder this time. People waiting outside the restaurant turned their heads, curious, but David didn’t care. “Why did you have to go and bother her?”
Marina’s lips trembled for a second before she forced a soft pout. “I wasn’t bothering her. I just went to say hello, that’s all. It’s been a while since I saw her…”
“Don’t lie to me,” David’s voice dropped low, dangerous. He stepped closer, his face inches from hers. “I know exactly what you were trying to do in there. You wanted to humiliate her.”
Marina’s eyes widened, her innocent act faltering. “Humiliate? David, no… I swear, I only....”
“Stop it,” he cut her off, shaking his head in frustration. He ran a hand through his hair, tugging it back roughly. “You always do this. Always. And I told you, I don’t want you near her"
Marina’s chest rose and fell quickly, her heart racing. She hated the way he was defending Lily. She hated it more than anything. “Why are you behaving like this? Why do you sound like you care about her?”
David froze. His eyes narrowed sharply.
Marina stepped closer, her voice rising. “Do you? Do you actually care about her? Did you...” she let out a bitter laugh “did you fall in love with her?”
David’s fists clenched at his sides. The words cut deeper than she knew. His chest tightened, his anger boiling over.
“Enough,” he barked. His voice was so loud Marina flinched.
He turned sharply, scanning the street. “Engiin !” he called driver, his tone harsh. The black car parked nearby rolled forward quickly, the driver stepping out.
"Take her home"
Marina reached for him in panic, grabbing his hand desperately. “David, no! Why are you leaving me? Please, I didn’t mean anything...” Her voice broke, tears welling in her eyes. She clung to him, her nails digging into his wrist.
David yanked his hand free so hard she nearly stumbled. His face was stone, his eyes colder than she had ever seen.
“I don’t want to see you right now,” he said flatly, his voice final. He didn’t even look at her again.
Before Marina could react, he raised his hand at a passing taxi. The car stopped, the driver leaning over to open the door. Without another word, David pulled the door open, slid inside, and shut it firmly behind him.
“David!” Marina screamed after him, her tears turning to rage. She lunged forward, but the taxi was already pulling away. His face didn’t appear in the window. He didn’t even look back.
Marina stood there on the pavement, shaking, humiliated, furious.
Lily turned on him, her eyes blazing. For a moment, Carson felt the full weight of her fury.
But he didn’t back down. Instead, he sighed and tugged her closer. “Wait here. I’ll bring the car,” he said quickly, as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
Lily glared at him, her lips parting as if she wanted to lash out, but he didn’t give her the chance. He brushed off her anger, turned on his heel, and hurried toward the parking lot.
She stood there, her chest rising and falling rapidly, her hands clutching her bag so tight her knuckles whitened. The night air did nothing to cool her down.
She wasn’t angry about David. She wasn’t even angry about Marina’s cheap little tricks. That was their nature, she had expected it.
No, what boiled her blood was Carson.
The nerve of him. The arrogance in his voice when he said she was his. As if he could just claim her like she belonged to him.
Her jaw tightened, her eyes burning with restrained fury.
“How dare you, Carson,” she whispered under her breath. “How dare you say that to me…”
Her fists clenched at her sides. She wasn’t sure if she wanted to scream or cry.
