“I’ll never give you a divorce,” David shot back, voice cold, absolute. “No matter what you do.”

Lily’s laugh was sharp and bitter. “Then I’ll see you in court. I’ll file the case myself and let’s see how you’ll ‘never give me’ divorce.”

Her words cut, but she wasn’t finished. She stepped forward, eyes unwavering. “What’s your plan, David? Keep Marina as your mistress? Because I heard you two are getting married. If you won’t divorce me, how will you marry your lover?”

For the first time, David’s expression faltered. His eyes flickered with confusion. “Marry Marina? Who told you that? I have no intention of marrying her.”

Lily’s chest twisted painfully. So… all this time…

Her voice rose with fury. “If you don’t want to marry her, then why string her along? Why give her hope? Didn't you love her all these years while you were married to me? If you did, what’s the problem now?”

David opened his mouth but no words came. His silence was louder than any answer.

Finally, he muttered, “Forget Marina. Move back home, Lily. If you want, I’ll break it off with her.”

Lily stared at him in disbelief, then let out a bitter laugh that echoed in the corridor. “Now? After everything? You think I want to go back to you? No, David. It’s too late. Marry your love. Leave me alone.”

She brushed past him, walking toward the door, but his voice lashed out behind her.

“You spent the night with one man, and now you’re running off to another. Does he even know you’re a married woman? Will he still want you when he finds out?”

Lily stopped, anger scorching through her veins. Slowly, she turned her head, meeting his gaze with steel in her eyes.

“Yes. He knows I’m married. And he still wants me.” She took a step closer, her voice sharp, trembling with both rage and pain. “That day in the restaurant, Carson stood up for me, did you forget? He did Something you never did in five years of our marriage.”

Her words hit him like a blade. Without another glance, Lily turned and walked away, leaving David standing frozen in the spot, rage and jealousy tearing him apart.

Lily finally let out a heavy, frustrated breath as the elevator doors closed around her. Her chest felt tight.

She didn’t even know anymore what David really wanted from her. Why was he so stubborn about not giving her a divorce? Why was he clinging to her when he clearly didn’t love her? The questions spun in her head until she almost felt dizzy.

When the elevator stopped, she stepped out and dragged her feet toward the apartment.

As soon as she opened the door, she froze. She hadn’t expected to see him there.

Carson was standing in the kitchen, sleeves rolled up, moving around. The smell of something faint lingered in the air.

Carson stood there in the kitchen, the towel still in his hands, staring at the spot where she had been. For the first time, he didn’t know what to say, didn’t know how to stop her. All he knew was that he didn’t want her to leave but she had already decided.

He ran a frustrated hand through his hair, his cheerful mask cracking for the first time. He had told himself it was all just a game, a way to get under Jabco’s skin. But now, watching her so determined to leave, he realized something far more dangerous: it didn’t feel like a game anymore.

When she finally dragged her suitcase out into the living room, Carson was still standing there, his expression unreadable. The silence stretched between them, heavy and suffocating.

“Lily…” His voice was lower than usual, stripped of the usual playful warmth. “Do you really have to go?”

Her steps faltered, but she quickly steadied herself. “Yes.”

Carson’s jaw tightened. He wanted to argue, to demand she stay. But instead, he forced a small smile, though his eyes betrayed him. “Alright then… at least let me drive you.”

Lily hesitated, suitcase handle in her grip. She shook her head quickly.

“No, thank you. I can manage.”
