April studied his face carefully. She had seen many men lie. They always avoided eye contact. They got defensive too quickly.
They twisted words.
But he looked… confused and lost.
Like a man who genuinely had no idea where everything went wrong.
She did not soften yet.
“What about your affair?” she asked suddenly. “You were meeting your ex behind her back. How do you explain that?”
Jabco blinked.
“My ex?” His eyebrows pulled together. “What nonsense is that?”
“You expect me to believe you had nothing to do with her?”
“I don’t,” he said firmly. “I have no relationship with her. None. If I cheated on Riyana, why would I be here today? Why would I spend six months searching for her like a madman? I went everywhere. I asked everyone. I destroyed my own reputation looking for her.”
His voice cracked slightly at the end, but he did not let it break fully.
"I don’t know who told her that" he continued more quietly. "But I never cheated"
April’s anger did not disappear, but something inside her shifted.
“You hurt her deeply,” she said. Her tone was calmer now, but it carried weight. “She didn’t scream. She didn’t fight. She didn’t beg for answers.”
She paused.
"She just broke. Quietly"
Those words hit harder than any accusation.
Jabco’s throat tightened. His hands slowly unclenched.
“She has been trying to stay strong,” April went on. “For herself.”
Her eyes lowered slightly.
“For the baby.”
The word hung in the air.
Baby.
Jabco’s eyes instinctively moved toward the hallway. Toward the closed bedroom door.
Nicholas noticed that small movement.
“She’s been doing everything alone,” Nicholas added. His tone was calm, but firm.
Each word felt like a stone pressing against Jabco’s chest.
He swallowed.
“I was looking for her every day,” he said quietly. “I didn’t stop. Not once.”
April looked at him again, this time with more depth.
“You found her now,” she said. “So what are you going to do?”
He did not answer immediately.
His gaze stayed fixed on the bedroom door. As if he could see through it. As if he could feel her presence there.
The woman he loved.
The child he did not even know about.
“I’m not leaving,” he finally said.
His voice was not loud.
But it was steady.
“I’m not walking away again. Not without talking to her properly. Not without hearing everything from her. Even if she hates me.”
Nicholas and April exchanged a look.
This would not end in one conversation.
Too much damage had already been done.
And in the bedroom, Riyana stood frozen behind the door.
Her hand rested protectively over her belly.
She had heard everything.
Every word.
Her heart was beating fast, but she did not move.
She did not know whether to open the door.
