My Husband's Affair My Anniversary Gift (Lily and David) novel Chapter 163

David froze in place. His mind went blank for a second. “Mum… what are you saying? I didn’t know. How is she? Is she okay? Is it serious?” His voice shook, panic spreading through his chest like fire.

“If you’re so worried, call her yourself,” Olivia snapped and hung up before he could say another word.

David stood there, stunned. The air around him felt heavy. His heart pounded so fast it hurt. He quickly dialed Lily’s number, but the result was the same, his call couldn’t go through. She still hadn’t unblocked him.

He clenched his jaw, anger and fear mixing inside him. “Roy…” he called out, his voice dangerously calm.

Roy, who had been standing a few steps away, stiffened. His face turned pale, and his hands trembled slightly. David’s sharp eyes caught that immediately.

“You knew about Lily’s accident, didn’t you?” David asked quietly, but the coldness in his tone made the air turn tense.

Roy swallowed hard. “Y-Yes, boss. I received the news early this morning. I’m sorry, you were in the meeting, so I didn’t want to interrupt....”

Before he could finish, David grabbed him by the collar and jerked him forward. His eyes were burning. “How dare you hide something this serious from me? Do you have a death wish?” he growled.

Roy’s voice shook. “Boss, I’m sorry! But I found out who’s behind it! After I heard about the accident, I sent our people to investigate, and I found...."

David’s grip loosened a little. His anger didn’t vanish, but it cooled enough for Roy to breathe again.

“What did you find out?” David demanded, releasing him and staring straight into his eyes.

Roy had always known about David and Lily’s marriage, but he had never pretended to understand it. He’d always followed orders, and the orders had been to treat their personal life as a private matter. David had acted distant around Lily for so long that Roy assumed David only cared for Marina. He remembered times when David seemed ready to settle with Marina, and Roy had never questioned it. Now everything felt upside down. David was avoiding Marina, making moves toward Lily and Roy had no idea why. He could guess that something had shifted in David, that he’d begun to feel more than he’d let on.

Roy pushed those thoughts aside and followed David out to the car. They moved quickly; there was no room for hesitating. David opened the passenger door, slid in, and without looking back said coldly, “Book the next flight. We’re going back.”

“Right away,” Roy replied, already dialing. His hands shook a little as he started arranging everything. As he started the engine, he watched David stare straight ahead, expression unreadable.

“Everything will be ready,” Roy said. “I’ll get the tickets and alert the team.”

David gave a curt nod. Then the car pulled away. Outside, the city blurred past, but inside the car the air was thick and quiet, heavy with the kind of resolve that meant nothing would stop them now.
