My Husband's Affair My Anniversary Gift (Lily and David) novel Chapter 164

“What are you talking about?” Lily’s voice went small when Mia told her who was behind the crash. Her mind refused to catch up at first, someone would do this over work? It felt impossible.

“Yes. It was Lina,” Mia said, very quietly. She had come to the hospital to tell Lily everything. She sat close, hands clasped, as she explained the pieces that made no sense alone but fit together now.

“She got angry after you made Livia the main model,” Mia went on. “Lina couldn’t handle losing the spot. She hired people to follow you and Noah. She says she only meant to scare you at first, to threaten you… but she admits she wanted to hurt you. Even kill you, if it came to that.” Mia’s voice shook a little. The words felt ugly in the sterile air of the ward.

Lily stared at her, stunned. How could someone go that far for a position? Her chest felt hollow and cold. Images from the day, the screech of metal, the sudden impact, came back in flashes. Her hands trembled.

At that moment Jabco and a police officer entered the room.

“Miss Lily, don’t worry,” the officer said. “We caught the culprit.” He gave a small, professional nod.

“Thank you, officer,” Lily managed, and she nodded back, swallowing.

“We’ll need your statement later,” the officer added. “We’ll come visit you when you’re ready. Get well soon.” He offered a thin, reassuring smile and moved to leave.

“Thank you,” Lily said again, more clearly this time. Jabco shook the officer’s hand and the officer turned away and walked out of the ward.

Jabco stayed behind and looked directly at Lily. His face was soft but fierce. “Don’t worry,” he said. “I’ll make sure she gets the maximum punishment for harming you.”

Lily breathed out, a mix of relief and gratitude. “Thank you so much, Mr. Grey,” she said, giving him a grateful smile that was almost shy.

“Nuh, don’t say thank you,” Jabco replied, brushing it off. “Just get better fast.” He tried to keep his voice light, but his eyes were earnest.

What Lily didn’t know and what Jabco held back, was how quickly the police had the evidence. It wasn’t a lucky break; David had sent everything to them. He had pushed his people to trace the car, the hires, the messages. Jabco knew this. He had seen the files, he had seen the trail. But he hadn’t told Lily.

He kept that part hidden on purpose. Letting Lily think David was distant, cold, or uncaring suited him in a twisted way; he liked her misunderstanding David. He wanted to hold a little control in the mess.

Lily looked at him sharply. “I don’t care why you’re here,” she said, her voice calm but distant. “I’m not in the mood to argue with you, so please leave.”

David let out a slow sigh. “Even lying here, full of injuries, you still have the energy to fight me. You’re really something else.”

Lily opened her mouth, ready to shout at him, but before she could, David pressed a finger gently against her lips.

“Shh…”

Lily froze. Her eyes widened, and her heart skipped. His finger on her lips sent a strange shiver through her not fear exactly, but confusion.

David felt it too. The moment his skin touched hers, a strange numbness ran through him. His throat went dry, and his eyes flickered down to her lips before he looked back at her face. “I really don’t want to fight with you now,” he said softly. His voice was quiet, almost unfamiliar.

His hand moved away slowly. For a few seconds, neither of them said anything. Their eyes met, and Lily noticed how tired he looked there were dark circles under his eyes, like he hadn’t slept for days. Something in her chest tightened, but she quickly pushed it away.
