My Husband's Affair My Anniversary Gift (Lily and David) novel Chapter 184

David’s brows drew together slightly, his expression unreadable.

“There was a man,” Lina added, “a fan who confessed to Marina months ago. She rejected him, and he didn’t take it well. He’s mentally unstable keeps showing up at her shoots, harassing her backstage. Security had to throw him out twice already. We’ve warned the production company, but he keeps finding a way back.”

Marina finally whispered, her voice trembling, “I…I don’t feel safe anymore, David. Every time I close my eyes, I hear footsteps. Sometimes I feel like someone’s standing right outside my door, watching me…”

She trailed off, gripping the edge of the bed so tightly her knuckles turned white. Her entire body was trembling.

David stared at her for a long moment. His face was cold.

“I’ll have someone look into it,” he said finally, his tone low and firm.

For a brief second, Marina’s eyes softened. She opened her mouth to speak to thank him, to cling to that small glimpse of the man she used to know but before she could, a faint sound came from outside the door.

A soft click.

David’s head snapped toward it instantly.

His sharp instincts kicked in. Without saying a word, he took a few long strides toward the door. Marina and Lina both froze, watching him.

He pushed the door open wide and came face to face with a man crouched in the corridor, holding up a camera.

The man’s eyes widened like a deer caught in headlights. For a split second, the hallway went completely still.

Then click. Another flash.

“Hey!” David’s voice boomed, low and furious. He lunged forward, grabbing the man by the collar before he could run. The camera clattered to the floor with a sharp sound.

“Who sent you?” David demanded, his voice icy.

The photographer stammered, struggling to pull free. “I...I was just....just doing my job! I work for StarLight Entertainment News... they said to get some shots of Miss Marina and...”

David’s grip tightened. “And?”

The man swallowed hard, his voice shaking. “And maybe… you… if possible.”

Lina gasped. Marina’s face went pale.

David’s expression darkened completely. “So they knew I was coming?”

The man didn’t answer, his silence confirming everything.

David’s jaw flexed as anger surged in his chest. The veins on his hand stood out as he shoved the man back against the wall. “Who told you?”

“Have you been stalking Marina lately?” His tone was icy calm, but the pressure on the man’s arm made him cry out.

“I....I was just taking photos! I didn’t mean to harm her!”

Marina stepped closer, her voice trembling with disbelief. “You’re defending her? After everything she’s done?”

“I’m saying we don’t have the full truth yet,” David said, calm but cold. “You should rest.”

Marina’s breath hitched. “What about me, David? You promised me. You said you’d divorce her and marry me.”

His jaw tightened. “I’m sorry. I can’t marry you.”

“What?” she whispered.

“I wasted your time,” he continued quietly. “I’ll make sure you’re compensated. You won’t have to worry about money again. But let’s not meet anymore.”

He turned to leave, but Marina ran after him and wrapped her arms around him from behind. “No! You can’t do this! You still love me, I know you do. I was wrong to leave you five years ago, please, David, don’t walk away!”

David sighed and turned, his expression unreadable. She rose on her toes and kissed him.

“Marina,” he said sharply, pushing her away, “that’s enough.”

She stumbled back, eyes wide.

David’s gaze turned cold as stone. Without another word, he walked out and entered the elevator. The doors slid shut, leaving Marina standing there, frozen, lost, and hollow.
