After the event ended, Lily packed up her tools with trembling hands. Her heart was still racing, the sound of applause echoing in her ears. She was halfway toward the backstage exit when she heard a familiar voice.
“Lily!”
She turned around and saw Linda hurrying toward her, her face full of guilt.
“I’m so sorry,” Linda blurted out, almost out of breath. “Because of my carelessness, you lost your gems.”
Lily shook her head softly. “It’s okay, Linda. It’s not just your fault,” she said quietly. “I should have been more careful too.”
Linda sighed in relief, though her eyes still looked heavy with guilt. “You deserved it,”
she said sincerely. “You worked so hard.”
“Thank you,” Lily smiled faintly. “Oh, by the way, thank you for the gems. I didn’t know you had extra.”
Linda blinked, confused. “Gems? What gems?”
“The ones you sent me earlier,” Lily said. “A staff member brought them to me during the round. I thought you sent them because they matched my design perfectly.”
Linda frowned and shook her head. “No, I didn’t send you any gems.”
Lily’s brows knitted together. “Are you sure?”
“Of course,” Linda replied firmly. “I was fixing the material box the whole time. I didn’t even leave the back room.”
Lily was speechless for a moment. If Linda didn’t send them, then who did?
“I don’t understand,” Lily murmured. “A staff member gave me a box of gems and said someone sent it. Those gems… they saved my design. Without them, I wouldn’t have finished in time.”
Linda let out a small thoughtful sigh. “That’s lucky,” she said quietly. “Maybe someone saw you struggling and wanted to help.”
“Maybe,” Lily replied softly, her lips curving into a faint smile. “Whoever it was, I owe them a big thank you.”
Linda smiled. “Yeah. Whoever it was, they have a good heart.”
The two of them walked back to the studio together.
Tomorrow was the final round, the one that could decide Lily’s future.
Once they put their things back, Lily turned to Linda. “You go rest. I’ll do some work here.”
“What are you talking about?” Linda frowned. “I’m not going back alone, and you should rest too. You haven’t slept properly for days. You did great today, and tomorrow will be even better.”
Lily smiled faintly. “Even if I try to sleep, I won’t be able to. My head is still full of designs. I should prepare for tomorrow. You’ve helped me enough today, Linda. Go back to the hotel and rest. Come early tomorrow morning, okay?”
