My Husband's Affair My Anniversary Gift (Lily and David) novel Chapter 225

Lily’s mind spun. She felt trapped in his warmth and his words. The same man she once loved. The same man she once hated most. The same man she tried so hard to forget for seven years.

Before she could speak again, Danish’s small voice broke the moment.

“Mom… Dad… are we going to live together?”

Lily jerked slightly, reality snapping back. She placed her hand on David’s chest again, firmer this time.

“Let me go,” she said quietly. “Not in front of him.”

David hesitated… then slowly loosened his hold.

But even as he let her step back, his eyes stayed on her. Dark. Burning. Determined.

As if he had already decided something in his heart.

And Lily felt a very real fear that she wasn’t ready for the storm that was coming.

“No, sweetheart, we are not going to live together,” Lily said without a pause. Her voice was calm, but it felt heavy, like she had swallowed a stone. She turned and started walking back to the kitchen.

Danish’s bright face immediately fell. His smile disappeared like someone blew out a candle.

David stared at her, shocked, almost unable to process what she just told their son.

“Mum… why?” Danish’s small voice broke, full of hurt. He wriggled in David’s arms.

David instantly put him down, thinking he wanted to stand, but instead Danish ran straight to his mother.

He grabbed Lily’s shirt with both hands and tugged it again and again, like he was scared she would walk away from him. His teary eyes lifted up to her face.

“Sweetie… your father has his own life now. He has his own things. You can meet him whenever you want, but we can’t live together,” Lily said softly, brushing a hand over his cheek.

She tried to sound strong, but her heart clenched seeing his small face twist in sadness.

David’s face turned dark. He couldn’t believe what she was saying. “Lily… what nonsense are you putting in his head?”

He stepped forward, his voice rising.

Danish spun around to look at David, his little face red, wet, trembling.

“Dad… you don’t love me and Mum? Why?” His voice cracked. He looked at David as if David had broken his favorite toy.

David ignored her. He reached for Danish again, and this time Danish didn’t resist. He clung to David’s neck, still sniffling.

“As you want,” David said softly to him. “You’ll live with both Mum and Dad. I promise you.. you'll have both "

Danish blinked up at him with wide, watery eyes, as if he didn’t believe what he just heard. “Really?”

David wiped his cheeks with his thumb. “Yes. Dad promises.”

Lily’s eyes widened. “David, don’t talk nonsense. Don’t promise something you can’t keep.”

David turned his eyes to her, sharp and steady. “Have you ever seen me talk nonsense? I never promise what I can’t do. You know that.”

Lily felt her breath catch. He said it with a tone she remembered too well. When he spoke like that, he always meant it.

David didn’t wait for her answer. He shifted Danish in his arms and walked out of the kitchen.

“If you have meetings, go,” he said over his shoulder. “I’ll take care of him.”

He carried their son out, leaving Lily standing there in the kitchen, her hands still trembling, her heart heavy, and her mind spinning in confusion and fear.
