My Husband's Affair My Anniversary Gift (Lily and David) novel Chapter 226

Lily stood in the kitchen for a few minutes before she walked out and went to her room. She got ready fast and came back. David and Danish were still on the sofa talking. It took them only a short while to grow close.

"I'm leaving. Make sure he eats the breakfast I made," Lily said.

"Where are you going? Eat something before you leave," David said as he stood and walked toward her.

"No, I'm already late. I was going to drop him at Noah's, but since you're here, take care of him. And if you have work, you can take him to Noah's."

She turned to Danish. "Don't make it hard for daddy, okay? He’s new. He doesn’t know how to handle kids." She didn't forget to throw a jab at David.

"I know how to take care of my son. You don’t have to teach me," David replied right away.

"Alright, let's see," Lily said. Her phone started ringing. "I'm leaving." She looked at both of them one last time.

But just as she stepped forward, David grabbed her hand.

"What is it?" Lily frowned.

"You made breakfast but you’re leaving without eating?" he asked.

Lily let out a sharp breath. "Mr. Hardison," she said and stepped closer, looking straight at him. "I worked for you for nine years. I used to stay hungry while feeding you, but you never cared. Even when we were married, you never asked if I had eaten. So now it’s not your business." She pulled her hand free and headed to the door.

David’s hands curled into fists. His jaw tightened. Why did she always hit where it hurt most?

“What the hell is this?”

Lily’s voice echoed back before she walked in again, angry. “What are those guards doing outside my apartment?”

When she stepped out, four bodyguards were standing there. She thought they were for David, but the moment they followed her, she understood. They were for her.

"How dare he?" she muttered under her breath, furious.

"They’re for your safety," David said calmly, sitting back down with Danish.

"My safety? What’s wrong with me? Who am I in danger from?" she snapped, storming toward him.

"Who knows what can happen? I don’t want something happening to you like seven years ago," David said without much expression.

Lily laughed in disbelief and anger. She stood in front of him.

"Danish, go to your room. I need to talk to your father," she said. Her eyes stayed on David. Even the boy sensed her anger and ran to his room.

"Lily, I’m not playing with you. I wasn’t planning to tell you anything, but I can’t hold it anymore. And how could you think I love you only now? I loved you even seven years ago. You’re the one who left. Did you ever think about me?"

"David, don't start this game with me. I don't have time. Tell them not to follow me. I have an important meeting and I'm already late," Lily said, her frustration rising. She couldn’t believe she was arguing with him when she should have been out the door. He always knew how to pull her into his chaos.

"Do whatever you want, but they’re going with you. That’s final," David said, stubborn as ever.

Lily stared at him with so much anger, but he didn't even flinch. After she left him seven years ago, he couldn’t trust her again. And now she wasn’t alone. She had taken his son with her. The thought of losing them again twisted something inside him. He knew he wouldn’t survive it a second time.

"I told you you’d regret coming back," he added, giving her a cold, challenging look.

Lily let out a sharp breath, like an angry snake. "You are the only person in this world I hate this much," she said, glaring at him before she turned and walked away.

She knew he wouldn't change his mind. Fighting with him was just wasting her energy.

Lily slammed the door on her way out.

David pulled out his phone right away and typed a message: Don’t let her out of your sight.

He sent it and sank onto the sofa. His eyes looked distant. He wasn’t going to repeat the same mistake again. She shouldn’t have come back, but now that she had, he wasn’t going to let her slip away a second time.
