My Husband's Affair My Anniversary Gift (Lily and David) novel Chapter 243

Lily took one step toward him. Her eyes were sharp, locked on his, filled with anger and hurt she had carried for years.

“Don’t put that anger on me,” Lily said in a low voice. “I told you already. I’m not scared of you anymore.”

David’s chest tightened. She wasn’t shaking, she wasn’t backing away. She looked straight at him like she was done.

“And you don’t deserve to get angry,” Lily continued, her voice trembling with rage.

“Because do you remember? What happened that day at the hospital? Because of your lover, I almost lost my child.”

David’s expression twisted. His eyes widened first, then narrowed. Anger and guilt flashed inside them so fast that Lily felt it like a punch.

“I remember,” he said. His voice was rough. “How could I forget? That day still kills me.”

He took one step closer. He didn’t shout. His voice dropped, trembling at the edges.

“But have you ever thought about my feelings?” His words cracked. “You always blame me for not caring about your feelings, but what about you?”

Lily blinked. She wasn’t expecting that.

“You ran away… while carrying my child,” David said, his voice breaking. “You lied to me. You told me you lost the child.”

His throat tightened. His breath hitched. Tears shimmered in his eyes.

“Have you ever thought how I felt?” he whispered.

Lily felt her own heart drop. A cold ache moved through her chest.

“I was completely lost after you left,” David went on, his voice shaking harder. “Every day felt like dying. The guilt of losing my unborn child… the guilt of losing you… it killed me every moment.”

He looked at her like he’d been drowning for years.

“But you… you were living happily with your son.” His jaw clenched. “And what about me?”

Lily swallowed hard. Her breath caught, but she didn’t interrupt him.

“I know I made mistakes,” David said. “I ignored you. I hurt you. You always thought I put Marina before you but that never happened.”

His eyes glistened. Then he suddenly grabbed her shoulders, holding her tightly like he was scared she would vanish.

“Lily,” he whispered, almost pleading, “every time I hurt you, it hurt me more. I was scared. If I accepted my feelings for you and you rejected me… what would I do? I thought about that all the time. That’s why I kept pushing you away.”

Her throat tightened. She didn’t breathe.

“You said I took Marina’s name while I held you,” David said, shaking his head. “But that’s not true. I never took her name. I was scared to take yours.”

His tears finally escaped. He didn’t even try to wipe them. They dropped down his face as his voice cracked open.

“I know this is not an excuse,” he whispered. “I was just scared.”

Lily froze. She felt her eyes burn. Tears slipped down her cheeks without her even noticing.

Sixteen years. Sixteen years with him in her life. Nine years beside him. Seven years away carrying the weight of those nine years.

David didn’t flinch. He held her tighter, his forehead brushing hers, his breath warm against her mouth.

“You don’t have to do that,” he whispered back. “Even if I ever did a single mistake again, or made you doubt my love for even a second… I’ll vanish on my own.”

Lily’s chest tightened. Something about the way he said it made her heart twist. It didn’t feel good. It felt heavy. Like she could feel all the years he blamed himself.

She didn’t answer with words. She just tightened her arms around his neck and kissed him deeper, holding him as if she was scared to let him go.

Their mouths moved slowly at first, then deeper, hungrier. Their tongues brushed, curled, pulled each other in like years of longing finally breaking out. Their breaths tangled. Lily’s fingers slid through his hair. David’s hands gripped her waist, strong and warm.

He lifted her without breaking the kiss. Lily wrapped her legs around his waist, holding onto his shoulders, feeling his heartbeat through his shirt. David took slow steps toward the bed, kissing her like he needed her air to breathe.

He laid her down gently, but the moment she touched the mattress, he kissed her again. He moved from her mouth to her jaw to her neck. His lips pressed against her skin, hot and needy. He bit her lightly, then soothed the spot with his tongue. Lily’s breath hitched, her fingers gripping his shirt.

“David…” she gasped when his mouth moved lower on her neck. “Should we… have dinner first? Mum and Danish are waiting…”

He didn’t stop kissing her. His lips brushed her collarbone when he answered, voice low and rough.

“Mum will understand,” he said. “Leave them.”

“David...” she tried to speak, but he kissed her again, deeper than before. All her words faded instantly.

His hand slid along her side. Her fingers held onto him like she’d never let go. Their breaths mixed, messy and fast. Every touch felt like it carried fifteen years of everything they never said.

His body was a furnace, every inch of him radiating heat as his lips found the sensitive skin just below her ear again. She shivered, her breath catching when his teeth grazed her neck not hard enough to hurt, but just enough to send a jolt of electricity straight between her thighs. His voice was a rough murmur, thick with years of restraint finally snapping. "Seven years is too long to wait for this."
