The drive continued without more words until they reached Olivia’s house.
The mansion looked warm, lights glowing from inside. Lily’s chest tightened again. She remembered her last visit years ago. Back then, she thought everything would get better. She thought time could fix things. She didn’t know how wrong she was.
David parked the car. Before Lily could unbuckle, Danish already kicked his legs excitedly and opened his arms toward David.
“Dad, carry me.”
David lifted him easily. Danish wrapped his arms around David’s neck like he belonged there.
Lily watched that, her fingers tightening around her bag strap for a moment. She shook off the feeling and got out.
As they walked to the door, Danish looked between both of them.
“Mum, dad is stronger than you,” he said proudly.
“I know,” Lily replied. “He goes to the gym more.”
David gave her a quick look. “Are you saying you don’t exercise?”
“I don’t have time for that,” she said.
Danish grinned. “Dad can carry both of us.”
“No he can’t,” Lily said immediately.
David only lifted one eyebrow. “You want me to prove it?”
“You dare” she shot back.
The door opened, and Olivia stepped out. Her eyes brightened when she saw them.
"Oh! My grand son"
"Grand ma" Danish was excited to see Olivia.
She hugged Danish first, then looked at Lily with a soft smile.
“You’re finally here,” Olivia said.
Lily smiled and bowed her head slightly. “Sorry it took me long.”
“It’s alright,” Olivia said. “Come in.”
They walked in. Inside smelled like freshly cooked food and warm spices. The table was already set.
Danish held David’s hand tightly, pulling him inside. Lily followed behind, her steps slow. She felt eyes on her sometimes, especially from David, but she ignored it.
“Did you miss grandma?” Olivia asked Danish.
“Yes, I missed you and your milkshake,” Danish said with a big smile.
Olivia laughed softly, brushing his hair back. She looked so happy that for a moment the whole room felt lighter.
David stood behind them, confused. The way they talked, the way Danish acted so close with her, it didn’t match with what he thought.
He didn’t care were they . He didn’t care about anything in that moment. His anger was too strong.
“David, what the hell are you doing?” Lily snapped. “Where are you taking me?”
She tried to pull her hand back, but he tightened his grip and kept dragging her through the hallway. Her heart started to pound. She felt confused and panicked, but he didn’t slow down.
He dragged her all the way upstairs. He pushed open their old bedroom door and pulled her inside. Then he shoved the door shut with a loud slam.
Lily stumbled a little but caught herself. Her face flushed in anger.
“Have you lost your mind? What is this behavior?” she shouted.
David turned toward her, eyes dark, breathing hard like he was trying to hold back an explosion.
“What is my behavior?” he shot back. “You all lied to me.”
“Lied? What lie?” Lily asked, her voice sharp with disbelief, her chest rising and falling fast.
The tension in the room felt heavy, thick, like the air itself was angry with them. Outside the door Danish’s little laughter faintly echoed from downstairs, so innocent compared to what was happening in the room.
David stepped closer, the anger in his eyes fierce, the hurt even fiercer.
He wasn’t just mad. He was broken. He was betrayed. He felt like the world played him for a fool.
And Lily could see every piece of that in his face.
