David only deepened the kiss, his hand sliding to the back of her neck, holding her right where he wanted her. She could feel his heartbeat under her palm, steady and stubborn, just like him.
When he finally pulled back, they were both breathing fast. His forehead leaned against hers, his breath touching her lips.
“Babe,” he whispered, voice still rough from kiss, " you are mine"
Lily swallowed hard, trying to calm her heartbeat. She looked away, breaking the eye contact before she lost her mind again.
Then Lily glared up at him. “You think this is going to work on me?”
“It already is,” he said, his voice rough and sure. His thumb brushed her jaw, slow and deliberate. “You’re shaking.”
“I’m not,” she snapped, even though she was.
David leaned in again, his forehead touching hers. “You can deny it all you want, Lily. I’m still here. And I’m not going anywhere.”
Her chest rose and fell, too fast, her eyes flicking away for a second. But he caught her chin and made her look at him again.
“Say it,” he said quietly. “Say you don’t feel anything.”
Lily opened her mouth but nothing came out. Her throat felt tight.
David’s lips curved, not in a smirk, but something deeper. “Exactly.”
He kissed her again, slower this time. Softer. More dangerous.
“You need to stop,” she said, her voice soft but firm. “Put on your clothes. I’m not talking to you like this.”
He didn’t listen. He wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her back against him. His bare chest pressed against her back, warm and solid, making her body tense immediately. His chin rested on her shoulder.
“You’re running from me again,” he murmured. “You said you won't last night.”
“I’m not running,” Lily snapped quietly. “I just woke up. I’m tired. And I need space to think.”
“And I need you close,” he said, like he wasn’t thinking at all. “I waited seven years. I’m not letting go just because you tell me to wear clothes.”
Lily almost groaned in frustration. This was exactly why she never trusted her heart. He always said things like this and made her forget everything logical.
She tried to twist out of his grip. “David, seriously. Let go.”
Instead, he kissed her jaw. Slow. Warm. Like he knew her weak points and didn’t mind using them.
She shut her eyes for a second, breathing in. She hated that her hands trembled. She hated that she still reacted to him like this.
“You think you can say anything and I’ll melt?” she murmured.
“You already melted,” he said, kissing the corner of her mouth. “Last night. And just now.”
That made heat rise on her neck. She shoved his shoulder lightly.
“Put your clothes on. I’m not talking to you naked.”
He grinned against her skin but finally stepped back. Lily turned to look at him and nearly rolled her eyes. He wasn’t even trying to cover himself. He walked to the wardrobe like it was normal.
Her clothes still hung there. Old dresses she had forgotten. Old memories she wished she could erase. Seeing them made her chest tighten again.
David picked up a simple black T-shirt and jeans. While he dressed, he kept glancing at her. Watching her. Studying her face like he was scared she’d disappear the second he blinked.
When he finished, he walked back to her slowly. More careful this time.
“You’re sore?” he asked, his voice softer now.
