My Husband's Affair My Anniversary Gift (Lily and David) novel Chapter 352

He walked closer, watching her carefully.

She nodded to herself as if responding to something her mother said.

“Yes… yes, I promise. I’ll be there soon,” she said. “Just stay there. Don’t do anything rash.”

Her voice softened, but her eyes were glossy.

“Okay. I’ll come. Just wait for me.”

She ended the call slowly and lowered the phone.

For a moment, she stood there without moving, staring at the floor, trying to steady her breathing.

Jabco spoke before she could walk away.

“What happened?” he asked, his voice low but concerned.

She flinched slightly, not because of his tone, but because she hadn’t expected him to speak.

She didn’t answer.

She slipped her phone into her bag and moved toward the door.

“Riyana,” he said again, stepping in front of her. “Talk to me. Is something wrong with your mother?”

She finally looked at him.

Her eyes were tense, guarded.

“I need to go,” she said quietly. “Move.”

He didn’t move.

“Where?” he asked. “Why are you in such a hurry?”

She clenched her jaw.

“This doesn’t concern you.”

His patience cracked slightly.

“Your mother concerns me,” he said. “You concern me.”

She scoffed lightly.

“Since when?”

That stung.

He took a breath, trying to keep his voice calm.

“Tell me what’s going on.”

She looked away, clearly struggling with something. For a second, Jabco thought she might speak. Might finally break the silence.

Instead, she said, “ I have to go "

And tried to walk past him.

He caught her wrist gently, not forcefully this time.

“Riyana,” he said. “At least tell me if everything is okay.”

She pulled her hand back immediately.

“Don’t touch me,” she said, her voice sharp.

“I don’t have time for this.”

He watched her grab her bag walking out of room.

He followed her immediately.

He didn’t want to tell her that he already knew about the pregnancy. If he asked anything now, her mood would only get worse, and he didn’t want that.

“Okay, fine. I won’t ask where you’re going,” Jabco said. “But at least let me drive you.”

“Jabco, don’t get on my nerves,” Riyana snapped. “I can’t take you to my mom. I don’t want her to suspect anything.”

She shot him an angry look and walked straight toward the elevator.

“My stepfather got into an accident,” she added stiffly. “My mom is panicking, so I have to go.”

Jabco let out a slow sigh.

She pressed the elevator button. After a short wait, the doors opened.

“Alright. If you don’t want to take me, fine,” Jabco said as they stepped inside. “But let Cristo drive you.”

Riyana immediately pressed the button for the ground floor.

“Or I’ll get you a plane ticket,” Jabco continued quickly. “Your mom lives in another city. You can’t go by car. It’ll take hours, and that’s not good for you.”

“What?” Riyana turned to him sharply. “Why can’t I go by car?”

He wasn’t going to take that risk.

The cold air outside hit her face the moment the doors slid open. Riyana didn’t slow down. Her heels clicked sharply against the floor as she walked straight ahead, ignoring the guards falling into position behind her.

Jabco stayed a step back, watching her shoulders stiff with anger.

She hated this. Being controlled. Being cornered when she was already barely holding herself together.

“Move,” she said sharply when one of the guards opened the car door for her.

She got inside without waiting.

The door closed. Jabco followed and sat beside her. The car pulled out smoothly.

For a few minutes, neither of them spoke.

Riyana stared out the window, her jaw tight. Her phone was clenched in her hand, screen dark, as if she was afraid to look at it again. Afraid of another call. Afraid of bad news.

Jabco watched her quietly.

He wanted to reach out. To tell her to breathe. To tell her everything would be fine. But he knew better. Anything he said right now would only feel like pressure.

Her phone vibrated suddenly.

Riyana flinched and answered immediately.

“Mom?”

Her voice softened in a way Jabco had rarely heard.

“Yes… I’m on my way,” she said, then paused. “How is he now?”

She listened, her fingers tightening around the phone.

“I know… I know. Try to calm down, okay? I’ll be there soon.”

Another pause.

“No, don’t cry. Please,” she whispered.

When the call ended, she didn’t put the phone down. She just stared at it, eyes slightly red.

Jabco finally spoke, his voice low. “Is he badly hurt?”

She nodded once. “He’s in surgery.”

That was all she said.
