My Husband's Affair My Anniversary Gift (Lily and David) novel Chapter 59

Early morning, before the sun was even up properly, Lily sat on the edge of her bed with her phone in her hand. She had barely slept the whole night, her mind running in circles about everything that had happened—the blacklist, the canceled contract, and David. The thought of him controlling everything again made her chest tighten with helplessness.

She opened Claire’s contact and typed slowly.

“I thought about what you said yesterday. I’m ready to move to your apartment. Don’t worry, it’s just temporary until I find a place for myself"

Her finger hovered for a second before she hit send.

Lily leaned back and stared at the ceiling. It wasn’t easy for her to accept help, especially from someone who was her boss. But at this point, she didn’t have much choice. David wasn’t going to make her life easy, and if she wanted to keep working, she had to be practical. Claire’s apartment was the safest option for now.

Her phone buzzed within minutes.

“I’ll come pick you up in an hour. Be ready. Don’t think too much, Lily.”

Lily let out a breath she didn’t realize she was holding. She quickly got up, washed her face, and started packing her things. Luckily, she hadn’t unpacked much since she was staying in a hotel. Just her clothes, documents, and a few personal things. While folding her clothes into the suitcase, she couldn’t help but feel a wave of gratitude for Claire.

Ever since they met, Claire had been nothing but kind. Despite her wealth and position, there wasn’t the slightest bit of ego in her. She treated Lily like an equal, sometimes even like a younger sister. Lily thought about how rare that was—most rich people she had crossed paths with never looked at her as anything other than someone below them. But Claire was different.

By the time Lily zipped her suitcase, there was a knock on the door. She quickly checked the peephole and saw Claire standing there, dressed casually yet elegant as always. Lily hurried to open the door.

“Good morning,” Claire greeted with a small smile.

“Morning,” Lily replied, trying to smile back even though her eyes were still heavy from lack of sleep.

“Ready?” Claire asked, glancing at the suitcase.

“Yes,” Lily nodded and grabbed the handle.

Claire took it from her immediately. “Let me.”

Lily felt awkward but didn’t argue. She followed Claire down the hallway and into the elevator.

On the way out, Claire asked softly, “You didn’t sleep much, did you?”

Lily shook her head. “Not really. Too much on my mind.”

“I understand,” Claire said gently. “But don’t worry. Once you move in, you’ll have peace. My place is quiet. You’ll feel safe.”

That word—safe—hit Lily hard. Safety had become something she longed for more than anything. She gave a small nod, grateful but unable to put her feelings into words.

When they reached the car, Claire loaded the suitcase in the trunk and gestured for Lily to sit. The ride was calm, with soft music playing. Lily stared out the window, her thoughts running.
