My Husband's Affair My Anniversary Gift (Lily and David) novel Chapter 67

David set the takeout bag on the table without saying a word. The calmness in his face was scarier than his earlier rage; it was the kind of calm that came after a storm but promised another one soon. Lily was still sprawled on the floor, her hair a mess around her face, her breath shaky.

He crouched down in front of her, tilting his head as his sharp eyes roamed over her.

“You really can’t stand, huh?” His voice was low, almost taunting, yet there was a flicker of something unreadable in his gaze frustration, guilt, maybe both.

“Don’t touch me,” she hissed, trying to push herself up on trembling arms.

David ignored her and slipped one arm under her knees and the other around her back, scooping her up effortlessly. Lily squirmed, slapping weakly at his chest, but he carried her to the bed like she weighed nothing.

He placed her gently on the mattress, his movements infuriatingly careful, like he was mocking her.

“Stay,” he muttered, pulling the blanket over her legs.

“I didn’t ask for your help,” she snapped, glaring at him through strands of messy hair.

“Yeah, well, you’re not exactly in a position to refuse it.” He turned away to unpack the food, his broad shoulders stiff.

The smell of warm noodles and stir-fry quickly filled the room, and Lily’s stomach twisted—not just from hunger, but from the strange intimacy of the moment.

David placed a container on the nightstand next to her. “Eat something.”

“I’m not hungry.”

“Lily.” His tone dropped lower, carrying a warning. He sat on the edge of the bed, picking up a pair of chopsticks. He mixed the noodles, blew on them, and then held them out to her.

She stared at him like he’d grown a second head. “Are you serious right now? You think feeding me fixes anything?”

He smirked faintly, though his jaw was tight. “No. But starving yourself won’t fix anything either. Eat.”

Lily turned her head away. “Go away.”

His hand shot out, gripping her chin—not roughly, but firmly enough that she had no choice but to face him. His eyes burned into hers.

“Do you think just because you act stubborn, I’ll just let you go? Don’t even think about it!” His voice cracked with frustration, and with a loud clack, he set the chopsticks down on the table.

David stood up abruptly, running a hand through his hair as if trying to release some tension. “Just… eat something,” he muttered, turning his back to her.

Lily gritted her teeth, her hand rising as if to throw the food away, but then she stopped. It was her food, paid with her money—why should she waste it?

Her anger simmered, and for a long while, the only sound in the room was the soft rustling of the takeout bag. Slowly, she began to eat. She didn’t ask if he had eaten; she didn’t care if he starved. That wasn’t her problem. He had come here to torture her, and she wasn’t about to make things easier for him.

Her hands shook slightly as she held the container, and she ate more out of stubbornness than hunger.

“You didn’t even ask me if I wanted any,” David said quietly, his voice catching her attention as he leaned against the wall, arms crossed, his expression unreadable.

His gaze darkened, and in an instant, his arm shot out, pulling her against his chest.

“You bastard, leave me alone!” Lily pushed against him, her palms pressing against his chest, but his arms only tightened, holding her close.

“I only leave with you,” he murmured, his voice low, unwavering. “Not alone.”

His presence was overwhelming, suffocating.

“Why are you doing this?” she whispered, her voice trembling. “You have everything. You have her. You have your life. Why can’t you leave me alone? Isn’t that what you always wanted?”

David didn’t answer at first. He buried his face against her neck, inhaling her scent, holding her as if she might disappear. When he finally spoke, his voice was low and hoarse.

“Because you are my wife. And I promise you… from now on, Marina won’t lay a hand on you.”

Lily let out a frustrated breath. That wasn’t the answer she wanted.

“But what about you? You’re the one making my life a mess. You stopped all my clients,” she said bitterly.

David lifted his head, his dark eyes locking with hers.

“If you come back, I won’t interfere with your work again. I’ll support you instead. Just… come back home.”
