My Husband's Affair My Anniversary Gift (Lily and David) novel Chapter 68

“Home?” Lily’s heart twisted painfully. She scoffed, her voice laced with disbelief. “Is that my home? Was it ever?”

She knew why he was doing this, why he was suddenly so affectionate. It was never about her. It was about him, about his reputation.

David’s expression didn’t falter.

“Alright,” he said calmly. “If that’s what you want, I’ll give you that home.”

Lily stared at him in shock before a bitter laugh escaped her lips. This man didn’t even know what “home” meant. Arguing with him felt pointless.

David, mistaking her laugh for agreement, pulled her closer.

“Just sleep now,” he whispered.

She stopped resisting, her body too tired to fight him anymore. His warmth was stifling, his hold unyielding.

Minutes passed in silence. Her thoughts churned, a storm of anger, confusion, and weariness. But exhaustion won. Her eyelids grew heavy, and despite herself, she drifted off in his arms.

The soft glow of early morning light slipped through the curtains, casting a warm hue over the room. Lily stirred, her eyelashes fluttering open slowly. For a brief moment, she was disoriented, her gaze landing on the unfamiliar ceiling. The faint smell of cologne and the warmth surrounding her made her blink again.

Then it hit her.

Her head rested against a solid chest, her body cocooned by strong arms that held her like she was something precious. David.

She froze. Every muscle in her body went stiff as she tried to process what was happening. Memories of last night flashed through her mind.

Her heartbeat quickened.

She tilted her head just slightly to look up at him. David was awake, his eyes half-closed but sharp, watching her with a calm expression that made her stomach twist. His hand instinctively tightened around her waist, pulling her a little closer.

“You’re awake,” he murmured, his voice deep and rough from sleep.

Lily swallowed hard and tried to push herself away, but his hold didn’t budge. “David…” she whispered, her tone uncertain. “Let me go.”

His lips curled into a faint smirk, though his eyes held no amusement. “You ran from me for weeks, Lily. Do you think I’m letting you go that easily now?”

David’s eyes narrowed as he watched her pale face, the way she struggled to catch her breath. There was a darkness in his gaze now, a storm brewing as he asked quietly, “Who was that on the phone?”

Lily didn’t answer him. She was too busy unlocking her phone with shaky hands, quickly typing and scrolling. Her eyes darted across the screen, searching for proof of what she had just heard. And then she found it.

Her jewelry designs—her hard work, her vision—plastered all over the LM company’s official page. Their new collection was identical to hers. Her breath caught, and a hot rush of anger surged through her body. Without thinking, she hurled the phone across the room. It hit the floor with a loud crack.

“Lily,” David said in shock, staring at her. He had known her for almost nine years—nine years of working side by side with her—and he had never seen her like this. Lily was always calm, always collected, always wearing that soft smile even when the world was cruel to her. She had been silent even when he himself had insulted her. She never raised her voice, never lost control. But right now, she looked like a woman on the edge, her chest rising and falling rapidly, her face flushed with fury.

“You… you did this, didn’t you?” Lily’s voice was hoarse as she glared at him, her eyes bloodshot with anger.

David blinked, stunned. “What are you talking about? What happened?” His voice was filled with confusion. He truly didn’t understand what she was accusing him of.

Lily laughed bitterly, a hollow, broken sound that didn’t match the woman he thought he knew. Tears welled in her eyes, sliding down her cheeks. “How long are you going to torture me, David?!” she shouted, her voice cracking. “Why won’t you just leave me alone?!”

David stood there, frozen, completely blank. Her words, her tears, her pain—they all crashed over him like waves, leaving him speechless.

“Can you tell me exactly what’s going on?” David’s voice was sharp, anger cutting through every word. “You can’t just throw blame at me when I haven’t done anything. If I had done it, you know I’d admit it without hesitation!”
