My Husband's Affair My Anniversary Gift (Lily and David) novel Chapter 78

Lily just wanted peace. That was all she wanted tonight.

But as soon as she stood up and her feet touched the floor, a strong hand grabbed her wrist. In a split second, she was pulled back with surprising force, her body colliding with the mattress again. The soft bed cushioned the fall, but the suddenness of it made her heart jump.

“What are you doing? Let me go!” Lily’s voice broke with anger as she tried to sit back up.

David didn’t listen. He moved so quickly, his tall, broad frame overshadowing her as he grabbed her shoulders and pushed her back onto the bed.

“David!” she yelled, shoving at his chest, trying to push him away, but he was too strong. His large hands slid around her, locking her in a tight embrace. His arms were like iron bars around her body, pinning her down.

“Have you lost your mind? Leave me!” Her voice trembled with anger, but there was a flicker of panic too.

She thrashed in his arms, her body twisting, trying to break free. But he didn’t loosen his grip. He held her so tightly that she could barely move, barely breathe.

“David…” she hissed through clenched teeth, her heart pounding hard, each beat echoing in her ears. Heat rushed to her face, not just from anger but from being pressed so close to him.

The sharp scent of alcohol mixed with a faint hint of cigarette smoke clung to him, surrounding her, seeping into her senses until it felt like she was drowning in his presence. The warmth of his body, the steadiness of his hold, it was all too much.

“You’re reeking of alcohol,” she spat, her voice laced with disgust. “Leave me.”

She struggled again, her hands pressing against his chest, pushing as hard as she could, but he didn’t budge.

“Shhh…”

His voice was low, soft, almost unfamiliar. The tone startled her enough to pause for a moment.

He buried his face against the curve of her neck, his hot breath brushing against her skin. She flinched, a shiver running down her spine at the contact.

“Just sleep,” he murmured, his voice calm, almost soothing. “I don’t want to force you tonight. Okay?”

Lily froze, her body going stiff beneath him. His voice was so different , too calm, too gentle. It didn’t sound like David, not the David she knew. Not the man who usually spoke with cold arrogance, who always made her feel like she was walking on glass.

“I don’t want to,” she whispered, her voice breaking slightly. “Leave me. I’m going to sleep in another room.”

Her words were stubborn, but her voice was weak. She tried to push him again, but he only tightened his arms around her.

“Lily.”

The way he said her name low, rough, and full of warning made her heart jolt. Not out of fear exactly, but because of the heavy weight behind it.

She clenched her teeth, trying to keep herself steady. She wasn’t scared of him. Not really. But there was something about the way he was holding her, the way his presence completely swallowed her, that made her feel powerless.

She didn’t have the strength to argue anymore.
