My Husband's Affair My Anniversary Gift (Lily and David) novel Chapter 92

David stayed with Olivia the whole day. He didn’t once step out of her room, not even when the doctors came and went. His mind wasn’t just with her health, it was also with the chaos outside those hospital walls. The rumors were everywhere, spreading like fire. Photos, posts, whispers. He already knew about it all, but he didn’t react.

His biggest fear wasn’t what people said about him. It was Olivia.

She wasn’t strong enough yet, and he dreaded the moment she would hear the ugly things circulating online. If she saw them, if she believed them, he wasn’t sure her heart could take it.

By evening, when Olivia finally drifted to sleep, he left her side and drove straight to Marina’s place.

The maid announced him, and within seconds, Marina came running down the stairs.

“David…” Her voice cracked with relief as she rushed forward.

“Marina....careful,” he said quickly, a frown cutting across his face. His eyes dropped to her still-fragile frame. She had only just been discharged yesterday after her miscarriage, and seeing her take the stairs like that unsettled him.

But Marina didn’t slow down. She threw herself into his arms, wrapping around him tightly.

David’s body stiffened. His hands hovered uncertainly, trembling as if they wanted to hold her, but couldn’t. In the end, they fell uselessly to his sides. He couldn’t bring himself to hug her back.

“You haven’t been answering my calls,” Marina said quickly, tilting her head up, her face lined with worry. “I thought you were angry… after those rumors online.”

Her voice softened, turning pleading. “David, I’m sorry. I don’t even know how things got out. I swear, I didn’t post my pregnancy test, and that wedding dress, it was for Ad, not me.” Her words tumbled out in a rush, her eyes wide, almost too innocent.

David stared down at her, his face unreadable.

What she didn’t know, what she would never admit, was that he already suspected. He didn’t have proof, but something inside him whispered the truth. The timing, the way the photos had spread too fast, too perfectly orchestrated. The test. The dress. All of it.

He looked at her now, the woman he had known nearly his entire life, and for the first time, he felt… skeptical.

David knew Marina since childhood. They had been in the same school since kindergarten. He still remembered being that quiet, awkward boy, too shy to raise his voice, an easy target for bullies.

David exhaled slowly, his hand finally lifting—but instead of hugging her, it only settled briefly on her shoulder, heavy and distant.

Seeing David so quiet, Marina’s stomach twisted with fear. He had never looked at her like this before, distant, unreadable. Panic clawed up her chest. What if he didn’t believe her? What if he was pulling away?

“David…” she whispered, grabbing his hand tightly. Her voice trembled as tears pooled in her eyes. “If you don’t believe me, I’ll post my statement online right now. I don’t care if people look down on me, I can take it. But I can’t handle it if you get hurt because of me.”

Her words broke on a sob, desperate, pleading. She clung to his hand as though it were the only thing keeping her from falling apart.

David swallowed hard, his Adam’s apple bobbing. For a long second, he said nothing. Then his voice came, low and steady.

“It’s okay. Let it be.” He drew his hand back, forcing calm into his tone. “There’s the gala next week. Prepare for it, we’ll go together.”

And with that, he turned and walked toward the door.
