**TITLE: Vows Became Blame by Mark Twain**
**Chapter 22**
The air was crisp and fresh, flecked with the soft sparkle of snowflakes as Bella captured the enchanting scenery on her camera, each shot more beautiful than the last. Nina, standing beside her, felt a sense of satisfaction swell within her heart as they prepared to return to the dorm, their spirits lifted by the winter wonderland surrounding them.
As they stepped inside the warmth of the dormitory, Nina’s gaze fell on Bella, who was already opening her laptop. Curiosity piqued, Nina couldn’t help but wonder what her friend was engrossed in. The soft glow of the screen illuminated Bella’s face, and when Nina inadvertently caught a glimpse of the article displayed there, excitement bubbled within her. She leaned closer, her eyes wide with intrigue.
“I swear, I wasn’t trying to snoop!” Nina exclaimed, feigning innocence as she blinked rapidly. With a playful grin, she pointed at the news article on Bella’s screen. “Are you following the drama at Eastbridge College too?”
Bella nodded, her expression shifting as she absorbed the words on the page. “Yeah, I heard about this freshman, Tessa Moore. Apparently, she went completely overboard. Just because she felt jealous of someone in her class, she ended up doing all those terrible things!”
Nina’s voice dropped to a conspiratorial whisper, her excitement turning to concern. “And those two powerful young men… they seem almost pitiful. They were just trying to help her, and look how it all turned out!”
As Bella read through the article, a realization began to dawn on her. A chuckle escaped her lips, the sound mingling with the heavy air of betrayal. So this was how they chose to navigate the chaos—casting all the blame on Tessa, vanishing into the shadows, and portraying themselves as the innocent victims in this twisted tale.
But the truth was far more complex than that. Tessa wasn’t the only one responsible for the pain inflicted. Sebastian and Ronald had caused Bella deeper wounds than Tessa ever could.
There was a stark distinction between the unexpected cruelty of a stranger and the gut-wrenching betrayal of those who had once been close. To Bella, Tessa was merely a passing acquaintance, a stranger in the grand scheme of things. Yet Sebastian and Ronald had stood by her side for fifteen long years, offering their unwavering support through every trial she faced. They should have been her pillars of strength, her allies in times of trouble. But in the end, they had turned against her for the sake of someone else.
And when the time came to confront the fallout of their actions, they had simply relegated all responsibility to Tessa, refusing to take ownership of their part in the mess.
Once, they had loved her fiercely. How could they turn their backs on her so effortlessly now?
