**Vows Became Blame by Mark Twain**
**Chapter 23**
Bella made a decisive choice: she would not pursue legal action against Sebastian and Ronald.
As the only heirs of the influential Gale and Lowe families, their actions were not just personal; they were emblematic of the power and reach of their esteemed households. In the past, they had successfully leaned on every police precinct in Utopia to dismiss her case, and their influence remained as daunting as ever. The weight of their status pressed down on her like a dark cloud, making the prospect of battling them in a court of law seem futile.
Instead, Bella resolved to wield their own weapon against them.
When the new semester began, whispers began to swirl through the halls of the major colleges like a wildfire, igniting curiosity and speculation among the students.
“Did you catch wind of this? That freshman who got caught last year? Turns out she had some serious clout backing her all along. I mean, if she didn’t have any connections, why didn’t she speak up sooner?” a student mused, leaning against a locker, eyes wide with intrigue.
“Isn’t it clear? Someone must have been pulling strings behind the scenes to keep her quiet,” another chimed in, nodding in agreement.
“Who else could it be? Everyone saw how those two from the Gale and Lowe families rallied around her. They claimed ignorance back then, but honestly, how could anyone not know what was happening?” a third voice added, shaking their head in disbelief.
“I heard they all grew up together, childhood friends and all that. Think about it. When it comes to choosing between a lover and a friend, it’s no surprise they’d pick the lover,” someone else concluded, their tone dripping with skepticism.
As the rumors spread, they morphed into a cacophony of speculation. The leaders of the Gale and Lowe families, sensing the tide turning against them, sprang into action. They initiated immediate public relations campaigns in an attempt to quash the growing narrative, just as they had done countless times before.
Yet this time, their efforts backfired spectacularly, igniting a public outcry that erupted into protests.
“Can’t you think of anything new? The same tired tactics every single time. We’re exhausted from it, and you must be too!” one protestor shouted, their voice cutting through the air like a knife.
