My Mate Is The Lycan King (Daisy and Kai) novel Chapter 100

Chapter 100

Chapter 100

I couldn’t shake the feeling that Daisy was hiding something from me, but knowing her, the more I pushed, the more she’d withdraw, so I forced myself to pull back.

It went against my instincts. I wanted to protect her, to know every damned thing that kept her up at night so I could put an end to it, but Daisy kept her cards close to her chest, and unfortunately, that didn’t change even after she mated with me.

She managed to hide it well though. She was chirpy as we ate breakfast, and she placed her hand in the crook of my elbow as we walked through town, taking in all the sights and views.

Darla had no idea where that street was, but she directed us into town and told us to ask around the coffee shops. She said it was our best bet of finding out. Damien had taken one end of town and we took the other.

“Those muffins smell amazing,” Daisy groaned, exhaling deeply. “It smells like blueberries.”

She gazed into the café longingly, and without thinking, I changed our course and headed straight for the café.

“We don’t have to,” she began but I ignored her. “Kai.”

“You want the muffin, don’t you?”

“Yes, but-”

“Good, you’re getting it.”

We walked into the café and met an older woman with greying hair and soft eyes. She was clearly human judging by her

scent.

“One blueberry muffin please.”

She smiled at us. “You came at the perfect time. We just have a fresh batch straight out of the oven. Are you both new here?”

“We are,” Daisy said before I could open my mouth. “We found as postcard among my mum’s things. She passed a few weeks ago.”

The woman’s eyes widened. “I’m so sorry.”

“Thank you. One of the postcards was from here and I thought of just coming here to feel closer to her.”

“That’s beautiful.” She said, actually sniffling as she packaged the blueberries. “I added one on the house, for your mother.”

“Oh you don’t have to-”

Daisy tried to hand it back, but the woman refused to take it.

“I insist. Was there anything else among your mother’s things? Any places she recommended?”

“No, but she liked to take pictures, and she took a picture of this road.” Daisy dug into her pocket and pulled out her phone. “You wouldn’t happen to know where it is, would you?”

She analyzed the picture carefully. “I know this place. It’s a bit out of town though. I don’t know why any tourist would go there. It’s mostly warehouses for days. I could give you directions if you want.”

“Yes please.”

As the woman rattled off directions, I couldn’t help but marvel at just how brilliant and amazing my mate was. Not only had she created a bond with the woman, she was also able to get our answers without rousing suspicion.

Chapter 100

I would never have been able to do it on my own.

“Thank you!” Daisy yelled over her shoulder as we made our way out of the café.

“You’re something else, princess,” I murmured. “I’m impressed.”

She shrugged, feigning nonchalance as she bit into her muffin, but I could see her fighting a smile. “I’ll text the directions to Damien-”

“No,” I cut her off. “Tell him to meet us back at the inn. We have to be careful now. We don’t want anything to jeopardize

what we have.”

“Okay. What now?”

“Now, we head back, and we plan.”

We spent the rest of the afternoon in Damien’s room, going over the plan

The guards didn’t know exactly what was happening, and I intended to keep it that way. I couldn’t be sure that there wasn’t a mole among them, so for now, all they knew was that we had a job to do and they needed to be on guard.

Since we now knew where we were heading, it was easy to get pictures from Darla of the surroundings and honestly, I could understand why it would be easy to hide kids there. There were no residential buildings around there. The roads leading there were deserted and it was mostly abandoned warehouses.

“Daisy, I think you should stay back while we do this,” I began and she snorted.

“We’ve been through this before, Kai. I am not sitting back. I’m going with you.”

“It’s not safe.”

“I’m well aware of that. I’m not asking to bust into the building with you guys. I’ll stay outside with the guards.”

I bit down on my tongue hard to keep myself from letting out a groan of frustration. I understood her emotional attachment to this case, but right now, I needed her to be fucking practical. She couldn’t defend herself. At this point, she was going to be a liability. I’d spend the whole time thinking about her.

“You can’t fight, Daisy. We are all skilled warriors. It would be best for everyone if you stayed here. As soon as we have the kids, we’ll come get you and we can leave.”

“What if the hunters are there? What if they’re chasing you down and you need to make a quick escape?” she asked. “Coming back here will slow you down. It doesn’t make any sense for me to not go with-”

“You’re staying here, Daisy!” I cut her off, a bit sharper than I intended. “End of discussion.”

I’d never raised my voice at her before. I’d never needed to.

For the most part, I didn’t mind budging with her on a few things. I had no issues with compromise, and I loved how attached she got to things. However, I wasn’t going to put her life as well as everyone else’s by letting her out into the middle of what could be an ambush.

She sat there, eyes wide in shock as she registered my words. I wanted to apologize, but I had to hold myself back.

“I’ll have two guards stay with you while-”

“Don’t,” she cut me off, rising to her feet. “I don’t need the guards.”

“Daisy-”

“You’ll need all the help you can get there. Now if you’ll excuse me, I think I’m going to head back inside. Since I won’t be there, I don’t think you have any more need for me here.”

“Princess-”

I reached out for her, but she side stepped me easily and walked out of the room.
