Chapter 105
Chapter 105
I couldn’t sleep during the drive back. I couldn’t get my brain to turn off either.
As soon as we got to the pack, Kai drove us home.
“I want to see the children,” I told him but he shook his head.
“Just go inside, Daisy. You’ve been up all night. You need to rest.”
I sighed.

This was the exact reason I didn’t want to tell him that I thought I was pregnant. I knew he’d begin to throw around his overprotective act and I wanted no part of it. I didn’t come this far just to let someone dictate my life for me. If I wanted that, I would have stayed in the Northern pack.
“I don’t want to argue with you right now, Daisy,” he continued, his voice exhausted. “Please go inside. I’ll be back soon. I have to meet with the patrol guards. The hunters may try to retaliate.”
I wanted to argue, but even I was too exhausted for the conversation. We both weren’t at our best, and it was obvious that the conversation would yield nothing but more arguments.
With a sigh, I got out of the car. “We need to talk, Kai. You can’t avoid it forever.””
“I’m not trying to avoid it. I’ll see you when I’m back.”
He waited until I’d gotten inside before driving off.
I was too riled up to sleep so I made myself some chamomile tea. While I was brewing it, I peeked through the window and saw guards position themselves around the house.
I shook my head, pulling the blinds closed.
If the hunter wanted to get in, he would. Kai knew that as well as I did, but I suppose it was easier for him if there were guards.
I took a long shower and lay in bed, trying to force myself to sleep, but my mind kept going back to that child we didn’t find. Was he dead? Had we missed him? Why was he the only one missing out of all the children?
Surely, there had to be something important about him or they wouldn’t have taken only him… right?
I wasn’t sure when I managed to fall asleep, but the sound of the door opening woke me up. I sat up instantly, grabbing the closest thing to me which so happened to be the night light. I raised it like a weapon, prepared to throw when the lights
came on.
Kai stood in the middle of the room, the buttons of his shirt undone, his eyes heavy and red rimmed from lack of sleep.
“It’s me,” he said softly. He shrugged his shirt off and immediately tugged down the pants.
I slowly placed the light back on the dresser and glanced at the clock. “It’s morning. Are you just returning?”
He nodded. “There was a lot to be done.”
“Kai, it’s eight a.m. We got back at three.”
He didn’t respond, he just made his way into the bathroom and I heard the shower start.
I was still tired, but all remnants of sleep had disappeared from my eyes. I made my way into the kitchen to make him a cup

of tea. Sleep never came easy for Kai, and I feared that it wouldn’t be any better now.
When I returned to the room, he was already wearing boxers and rummaging through his clothes.
“What are you doing?” I asked, brows furrowing in confusion.
Kai never slept with clothes, not even on the coldest of nights.

“I have to meet with the council,” he said simply, not even bothering to look at me. “They need to be updated on everything happening.”
“I’ll do it.” I stepped in front of him, ripping the shirt out of his hands. “You need to sleep.”
“I have work, Daisy.”
He tried to side step me again, but I refused to move. Instead, I held up the mug of tea. “This is for you, drink it and get into
bed.”
He groaned aloud; a sound of pure frustration. “Princess, I’m busy, you need to-”
“Drink the damned tea and get into that bed!”
We both fell silent at my outburst.
For a second, neither of us moved.
My heart raced as I anticipated his response. I knew he wouldn’t hurt me, but that didn’t ease my nervousness.
A minute passed, and he finally took the tea from my hands. He lifted it to his lips and drank. I saw his shoulders sag slightly.
“An hour.” He bargained. “Then you have to wake me up.”
There was no way I was waking him up in an hour, but he didn’t need to know that. I led him to the bed and pulled the covers over him
“Stay with me,” he said softly, grabbing my arm when I was about to leave. “I sleep better when you’re here.”
I hesitated for a moment before nodding.
got into bed next to him and he immediately put the tea down and wrapped his arms around me. My head was pressed up against his chest and I could hear his heartbeat start to slow.
“You’re hot when you’re bossy,” he mumbled. “And a little scary too.”
Laughter bubbled out of me. “I don’t think anyone has ever called me scary before.”
“You’re downright terrifying, princess.” He kissed my forehead. “You have to wake me up soon though. I really do have to meet with the council.”
“Just sleep,” I whispered, tracing my fingers over his chest. “The council will be dealt with.”
His breathing slowed after a few minutes, and his hold on me loosened just a little as he finally fell asleep.
I waited a few more minutes to be sure that he was truly sleeping before slowly pulling myself out of his hold. In his sleep, he blindly reached out for me, so I pushed my pillow into his hold. It smelled like me enough to keep him content for the
next few hours.
I grabbed a few clothes from the closet and dressed up as quietly as I could.

With one last glance at him, I put his phone on silent and left the house.
