Chapter 116
Chapter 116
It was a tearful reunion.
As soon as she saw her mother at the end of the hall, she ripped her hands out of mine and took off running.

There was no denying that they were related. They had the same blond hair and sharp green eyes. It was like looking at an older image of her.
She sobbed into her mother’s neck, and I could tell it was taking everything for her mother to not burst into tears as well.
“Thank you,” she whispered tearfully to me. “She’s all I have left of her father. I never thought I’d–”
She choked on her words and just stroked her child’s hair. It brought tears to my eyes.
I hated myself for what I was about to do, but it was necessary. “Can we talk to you about her father?”
She went deathly still, all traces of emotion wiping off her face. “What about him? He’s dead.”
I stepped closer, making sure my voice was a whisper as I spoke. “We know he’s human.”
Her eyes flashed over to Jordan in worry, but her Alpha didn’t move from his spot, he just watched us with those ever observant eyes that unsettled me.
Forcing my gaze away from him, I continued to speak. “All the children who were taken were hybrids. Do you know any reason why they’d want to do that?”
She shook her head. “We don’t know much that happens outside our pack, and at home, I was the only one who had a child taken. I’m sorry, but I can’t help you.”
It was obvious that there was something she was hiding, but I had no proof of it.
“If you’ll excuse me now, I want to go home with my child,” she mumbled.
She didn’t give me a chance to speak before turning on her heels and heading out of the hospital, clutching her daughter for dear life.
A few seconds after she’d left, Jordan made his way over to us. “She’s lying.”
It was Kai who answered. “I know. Do you know what she’s lying about?”
Jordan snorted. “I don’t know intimate details about every member of my pack, that would be impossible. You of all people should know that, but I can try to find out.”
“How?”
He just smiled softly. “I have my ways. I’m sure we’ll be seeing each other again soon, your majesties.”
He bowed low and began to walk away, but I couldn’t help but stop him.
“Why are you helping us?” I asked.
The others had no interest in meddling in our affairs. They just wanted to take their kids and leave, and honestly, I didn’t blame them. The hunters had steered away from packs for years. The last thing anyone wanted was to bring them to their doorstep, yet Jordan didn’t seem bothered by that.
He paused in his tracks and without turning to look at me, he spoke: “let’s just say I have a personal interest in the matter.”

He didn’t offer any more explanation, and I didn’t get the chance to say more because before I could blink, he was already out the door and getting into his car.
“He’s leaving, isn’t he?” I asked and Kai nodded. “The others?”
“Loran left this morning. Phineas is waiting for his pack members to arrive then they’ll leave together.”
I hadn’t expected Loran to even stay the night. He didn’t seem like the kind to be comfortable anywhere but in his own pack.
“Don’t think about it too much,” he said softly, his lips brushing the top of my head. “How about some coffee?”
Coffee sounded fucking amazing at that point but unfortunately. I wasn’t allowed. “How about hot chocolate instead?”
Rather than stop at a random café, Kai took me home and brewed me a cup of hot chocolate.
It was the best thing I’d had in a while.
I sat cross legged on the couch, sipping it while he typed away furiously on his laptop. I knew I had a mountain of work waiting for me in the office, but for once, I really didn’t want to think about it.
Instead, I typed out a message to Scarlett regarding the things I wanted her to look into at the Northern pack. I knew she’d be busy trying to catch up with her old life and the last thing I wanted was to bother her with pack work right now.
I’d just sent the message when my phone buzzed with an incoming call. I picked it up immediately, not bothering to check the caller ID. I assumed it would be her.
“I promise I’m not trying to tell you how to rule your pack, I just had a few suggestions,” I said immediately.
“Considering that I don’t have a pack, I don’t think that message is for me.”
I went deathly still at that voice.
