Chapter 119
Chapter 119
Evan and Kai were back in the children’s room.

Evan sat cross legged on the bed, his hands folded in front of him. They were still covered in crusts of blood and blood splatters covered his cheeks.
Kai sat in a chair, arms crossed over his chest as he stared at Evan. Neither of them spoke, and the tension in the room was so thick, it could be cut with a butter knife.
On my way here, I told him everything via the mind link, but I told him to hold off until I got here because I wasn’t sure how Evan would react when confronted with the truth.
He’d never been violent towards Kai, but there was no telling what would happen now that he’d been pushed to his limit. He Obviously had a soft spot for his mother and I hoped that having a woman present would make the situation easier for him.
“You should get cleaned up,” I said softly, reaching for a pack of wipes. “Do you want to do it yourself or do you want me to help you?”
Evan didn’t speak.
I took a step closer to him and heard Kai’s voice in my head: “Be careful.”
I knew he meant well so I said nothing and walked over to the boy. He looked much smaller sitting with his shoulders hunched. He didn’t help me clean himself, but he didn’t fight me either and I considered that a win.
“I know what he did to you both,” I began. “Your mother told me.”
He snorted. “She loves him. She’s never going to leave him.”
“She loves you too, and I think she’s just hurt. She fought to come here for you.”
He finally looked up at me, his eyes far too sad and holding more emotions than any his age had any right to be holding.
“I want him to die,” he admitted softly. “I know I’m going to jail for it, but at least he won’t hurt my mum again.”
“Let’s try to make sure you don’t go to jail first, okay? Did you ever hear Gary speaking to them before you were taken? Is there anything that might be able to help us prove that he gave you to them?
He pulled back. “You don’t believe me.”
“Of course I do, but there is still a process for things like this and we need to prove beyond a doubt-”
I reached for him again but he snatched his hand out of my grip and shoved me back. “You think I’m a liar.”
Kai was at my side in an instant, hands firmly planted on my shoulders to keep me from tripping over myself.
My heart was hammering in my chest at Evan’s sudden outburst. I/knew there was always a potential of him acting out this way but I didn’t expect that it would happen like this.
“Go away!” he screamed. “Both of you, I don’t-”
“Stop it, right now!” Kai snapped and he immediately went silent. “Sit down.”
Evan was silent for a moment, his cheeks a bright shade of red, but I watched as he slowly lowered himself back into a sitting position.
I wasn’t sure how I felt about Kai yelling at him considering the kind of background he was coming from, but I said nothing,

merely watching their interaction. If I felt it was getting too much, then I’d step in.
“We are trying to help you,” Kai said, his voice soft but firm. “Is there anything you can tell us that can help?”
Evan’s jaw clenched but he nodded. “He was paid. I saw them give him a big bag full of cash.”
“Anything else?”
55 vouchers
“Before they took me, he kept hiding in the room to take some calls. He said it was for work. I think he was talking to them.”
“Thank you, that is helpful. I’ll talk to Scarlett so she can look into-”
He was cut off when the door opened behind us.
A nurse poked her head in, her hair a rumpled mess and her brow covered in sweat. She glanced over at Evan before locking eyes with Kai and I, and I immediately knew what she had to say.
“Excuse me,” I mumbled, quickly making my way over to her. “Tell me.”
“He’s alive,” she said softly. “He’s awake, but I don’t know how long he’ll be stable. He suffered a lot of damage and he may still slip through the cracks.”
“Can we speak to him?”
She nodded. “We gave him enough morphine to dull the pain, so you have a few minutes before we have to give him more and that may knock him out.”
“Thank you.” I murmured before speaking to Kai via the link. “He’s up. We have to question him now.”
“Go ahead, I’ll be right there. You know what to ask him.”
I wasn’t sure how I felt about questioning him alone, but I figured there was no harm in trying.
The nurse led me down the halls to the room where he kept. He was covered in cuts from head to toe, and he had wires coming out of every inch of him. His breathing was labored and the heart monitor was an awful reminder that he was still breathing.
“I want that bastard in jail for this,” he hissed. “I told his mother that he was a killer. I told her that she was raising a cunt-”
“I would appreciate it if you didn’t swear in this hospital,” I said simply.
His eyes snapped over to me and I watched him assess me carefully. “I want to speak to the Alpha.”
“He’s busy at the moment. You have me.”
He rolled his eyes. “I want a man.”
“I don’t care what you want, Gary.” I took a step closer to him. “Right now, you’re lucky you’re not in handcuffs. We saw the bruises on her, and Evan has told us what you did to him and how you sold him to the hunters.”
“Bullshit.”
“Is it really? You didn’t take a duffel bag from those hunters in exchange for the boy you never wanted? I find that hard to believe.”
“I’m not going to sit here and listen to some cunt tell me what she thinks. Get the fucking cops in here and the King or I swear by the goddess-”
“You’ll do what, Gray?” I asked reaching for the oxygen wire in front of me.
