Chapter 120
Chapter 120
I never thought I’d be one to try and torture information out of someone.
I never saw the appeal of watching someone squirm for their life, but as I had Gary clutching his throat, fighting for just a lungful of breath, I saw how it could quickly become enticing. I watched his face turn a ghastly shade of purple, and I knew I’d have to let go soon, but a part of me didn’t ant to. It’d be easier for everyone if he just died.
Evan and his mother would be safe. The world would be rid of one more piece of scum.
Reluctantly, I let go of the wire and his face turned beet red as he took in large gulps of air, coughing and spluttering.
“You tried to kill me!” he screamed, his voice accusatory. “I could have you arrested.” He reached for the panic button. “I’m calling the nurses.”
“Go ahead,” I shrugged. “Who would believe you over the Queen?”
His cheeks turned even brighter. “You did it.”
“Maybe I did, maybe I didn’t, the point is that no one will take your word over mine. It must be frustrating knowing that no one is going to believe you. I’m sure that’s how Evan felt.”
“Stay the hell out of my family business,” he snarled. “You have no right-”
“True, I don’t. The law does dictate that we don’t directly interfere in other pack business unless it is something that affects the entire werewolf kingdom, and fortunately for me, this does. You sold your stepson to hunters who stole kids from other packs. The way I see it, you were an accomplice to their crimes. That is a criminal offence and puts you under palace jurisdiction meaning I can do whatever the fuck I want.”
It was a bit of a stretch, but he didn’t need to know that. All that mattered was that he felt as helpless as possible because that was the only way I would ever get the truth out of him.
All the blood rushed out of his face. He opened his mouth to speak, but I didn’t let him.
“The other kids were kidnapped, but you gave yours up willingly. Who knows if you were in cohorts with them and helped them steal the others?”
“I didn’t.”
“Semantics,” I drawled, waving him off. “You can deny it all you want, but unless there is proof that says otherwise-”
“There is!” he yelled out. “I have the email they sent when they reached out to me. I thought it was weird that they already knew so much about the family so I kept it. I can show you.”
I stared blankly, refusing to let on just how eager I was to see what he had to offer.
“It’s on my phone,” he continued. “In the drawers.”
I reached for the phone and opened his emails. Sure enough, there was one that he’d starred. The email address looked bogus, but as I read through, I couldn’t help but realize was a truly horrible person Gary was.
He was skeptical for the first response, but after that, his eagerness and desperation to get rid of Evan won over.
“Didn’t you care for even a moment?” I asked. “They could have killed him. You had no idea what they wanted him for. Bunch of strangers just offered to take the boy off your hands and you didn’t even put up a fight.”
“Don’t judge me,” he hissed. “You have no idea what it’s like to raise that… boy. He is a menace.”

“Perhaps it’s because you hit him and his mother all the damn time!” I snapped. “Perhaps it’s because you call him a… what is it you said in the email? You called him a fucking runt!”
“I don’t care what you think of me. You’re just like the other females… spineless and weak. You don’t know how to get things done. I did what was necessary and now you know that I had nothing to do with the other kids so you can’t punish me.”
I laughed softly. “Actually, I can.”
“But you
said-”
“You sold a child across pack lines; that is trafficking, and that is a palace matter.”
His mouth fell open in shock, and I watched his expression shift from shock to embarrassment and then anger. He sat up slowly, despite the multiple wounds across his body.
It’s my word against yours,” he stuttered. “I’ll say you blackmailed me-
I waved his phone in his face. “I have all the proof I need here, and there are guards tearing up your house right now. If they find even a dollar bill linking you to those men… checkmate.”
His ears turned deep red and he began to rise. “You little-”
“I would be very careful of my next words if I were you,” I stopped him. “I could kill you easily if I wanted. Not only are you weak, you’re hospitalized. If I don’t want to get my hands dirty, I can have a guard here in three seconds flat.”
I paused for dramatic effect before continuing.
“And if that doesn’t scare you, my mate has been right outside that door for the past few minutes. He has heard everything you have to say, and trust me, he doesn’t take too kindly to threats against me.”
I smelled Kai the moment he approached the door. I was surprised at first that he didn’t walk in, but I quickly realized that he was giving me the chance to handle the matter myself.
The door creaked open and Kai walked in, his hands clasped in front of him and his shoulders high. He looked every bit like the king that he was. It was rare for me to see this side of him; this cold and expressionless leader.
All of Gary’s bravado fled the moment Kai walked in. His face turned deathly pale and true fear filled his features. It was amusing to see the man who has terrorized an entire family looking like a terrified boy.
“Mercy, please!” he cried out, bowing his head low.
Kai chuckled humorlessly. “It isn’t my mercy you need to ask for. It is theirs.”
He stepped to the side and I watched in shock as Evan and his mother walked into the room.
