Sometimes, I wished she could see herself through my eyes and see just how fucking perfect she was. Our child was already blessed to have her as a mother, but she couldn’t see it yet.
It took her a while to fall asleep. I could tell she was thinking over my words before she slept, and I knew the conversation would inevitably come up later, but I was prepared for it. If it’d take telling her how amazing she was every day, then I was prepared to do it.
I rolled out of bed carefully in the morning so as not to wake her, and after placing a soft kiss on her hair, I retreated into the kitchen to heat up some breakfast for her.
Once I was there, I dialed Damien.
He picked up almost immediately. “I wasn’t expecting you to call me. Is everything okay?”
“Yes, I need an update on the situation with the parents coming into the pack.”
“Oh, I-I’ll ask Scarlett. She’s the one in charge of it.”
There was a lot of movement in his background, and I could’ve sworn I heard a muffled female voice, but I wasn’t even surprised, Damien had always done his own thing, especially when it came to the other gender.
“Whoever she is, I hope this tryst of yours isn’t going to cause trouble later,” I drawled.
It wouldn’t be the first time he’d fuck someone and it would slap us both in our faces.
In my early years as Alpha, he fucked so many of his and my assistants that I had to change them every three months. It became a rule that he wasn’t allowed to have sex with people we worked with.
“It won’t,” he assured me. A door shut and suddenly, there was silence. “I’ll talk to Scarlett and figure it out.”
His voice shook on her name, as if he was hesitating first. It made me suspicious.
I would never have noticed it before, but knowing their past now, I’d learned to look into the little thing. “Please tell me it isn’t my cousin in your room.”
“It isn’t.”
He answered it far too quickly, but that didn’t mean it was a sign of deception. If he were in front of me, 1 would’ve been able to tell in a heartbeat.
“Damien-” I began but the sound of footsteps made me forget everything I wanted to say.
Daisy walked into the kitchen wearing nothing but one of my shirts. It was completely see through from where I stood and I could make out the outline of her tits and the fact that she wasn’t wearing any panties.
I immediately forgot everything I was saying to Damien and hung up the phone. “Hey, princess.”
She stopped in her tracks, eyes narrowing. “I know that look, and I am going to be standing right here.”

I couldn’t stop my lips from tugging upwards. “What look is that?”

“It’s the look that says you want to bend me over that counter. I’m starving and I would like to have breakfast before you begin bending me into uncomfortable angles, okay?”
She had her hand on her hips and her jaw set tight, but something about it made me laugh. She was adorable when she was pissed, and it only made me want to push her buttons more.
However, I let it slide this time. She was pregnant after all, and she had barely touched her food last night.
Thankfully, she seemed to enjoy the breakfast wraps I made for her this morning. She sat on the counter, legs swinging as she hummed to herself. I knew it was the perfect time to ask what I wanted.
“Have you thought about when you want to go to the hospital?” I asked.
She stopped swinging her legs and her humming ceased. “What?”
“For the ultrasound, or to see a doctor,” I explained. “You don’t have to, but I was wondering if you’d thought about it, and when you want to go.”
I’d never felt nervous before in my life, not even when we first met, and not on our mating ceremony. There was always a level of assurance and surety that came with being Alpha and King, but standing here in the kitchen, talking about seeing our child for the first time,,my heart was pounding.
“You look like you’re about to throw up,” she observed and I laughed.
“I feel like I’m going to throw up,” I admitted. “I’m fucking terrified. I wonder if I’m rushing the steps.”
A small smile grew on her lips. “Who knew that the king would be nervous about a little baby? I’m a bit surprised. You seemed good with the other kids.”
“Because they weren’t growing in your belly, princess. This is different.”
She shrugged as if to say ‘not really. “We can go today, if we can make the time. I think I’d prefer sometime in the evening when the hospital is more quiet. I don’t want people finding out just yet. There’s a lower risk of it getting out if we go later.”
“Is there a reason you don’t want people to know?”
She hesitated for a moment before speaking. “The hunters. I don’t want them to have one more thing they can use to hurt us.”
I hadn’t thought of it that way, but she was right.
Roger had used every opening he could get to exploit the situation, and his silence so far only made me more suspicious. He wasn’t the kind of person to take a loss like the one we dealt him lying down.
