She explained that I was probably around seven weeks gone.

I tried to listen to her, but I couldn’t tear my eyes away from the screen. I could hear my own heart pounding in my ears and everything ceased to exist.
I realized how the pregnancy didn’t feel real until this moment. It was like I was suddenly aware of the fact that there was another being growing inside of me, one that was half Kai and half me.
“A lycan pregnancy is shorter than a typical werewolf or human pregnancy,” she explained. “Not by much, but you should be due to give birth from thirty two weeks. Some last longer, and in your case because you’re a werewolf, I can’t tell how long it should take.”
I finally lifted my eyes to her. “So there’s a chance our baby will be a werewolf?”
“Not at all. Lycan genes are much stronger. It will most definitely be a lycan, but this is new territory and it is best to give you all the facts upfront. I’m sure there are doctors who have handled such cases in our history. I’ll be sure to look into it before your next appointment.”
“Thank you.”
She gave me a warm smile. “I’ll leave you two alone.”
I watched her walk out of the room before turning to Kai. His eyes were glassy and dazed, his mouth slightly agape. For a moment, he just stared at the now blank screen, not speaking or moving.
“Kai?” I called out softly.
That seemed to snap him out of his gaze. He turned to me, eyes shining with a thousand different emotions. He leaned forward and placed a feather light kiss on my bare stomach.
“You’re so fucking amazing,” he whispered. “I don’t… fuck. You’ve rendered me speechless, baby.”
I laughed. “I think that was the baby.”
He shook his head before resting his forehead against me. “It’s all you. You’re carrying our child. I don’t know how to react to this. Give me a fucking second to catch my breath.”
I’d never seen him so ruffled before. It was cute.
I cherished this moment because I knew it wouldn’t last long. Sooner or later, the shock of the baby would wear off and we’d have to face the prospect of something happening to Scarlett. Perhaps it was selfish, but for one moment, I just wanted to be happy. I wanted to feel like I’ve won.
“Thank you,” he whispered. “You have given me everything I could ever want. You’ve given me a family. I never thought I’d have one.”
“That’s not true-”

“It is,” he cut me off. “I was never going to just mate blindly. If I’d never found you, I would have never mated. This is a better life than I could have asked for. You’re my fucking light, princess.”
Tears gathered at the back of my eyes and I hastily wiped them away. “I love you”
He pressed his lips to mine in a soft, coaxing kiss. He poured every ounce of his love and gratitude into it. My hands found their way around his neck, pulling him impossibly closer. I wanted the moment to last forever but ultimately, I had to pull back for air.
We stared at each other for a moment, neither of us speaking. The silence stretched thin, but there was no need to fill it. For a moment, we just existed, two people in love.
Three more hours passed before we finally got news of Scarlett.
The nurses discharged me after getting assurance from Kai that I would take things easy. He tried to make me go home but I couldn’t leave, not until I knew that Scarlett was okay.
We all sat in the waiting room… technically, I sat while Kai and Damien paced. Their presence took up all the space in the waiting room, and people glanced at them warily. The bonds still hadn’t come back, and I could tell it was driving them mad not knowing what was happening.
“Alpha, Beta,” a doctor said, approaching us. “She’s out of surgery.”
“Is she okay?” Damien asked. “Is she alive?”
She nodded. “You can see her now.”
Damien sighed with relief, but my eyes didn’t leave the doctor. She was stone faced, her lips pressed into a tight line. I would have expected some more excitement or happiness from her considering the good news she just told us. It was clear she was hiding something.
Damien and Kai took off down the hall. I followed after them, but at a much slower rate. I waited until they were a bit of a distance ahead before I finally spoke to the doctor.
“Tell me the truth.”
She paused for a split second. It was barely noticeable. “I don’t understand, Luna. I already told you that she is alive,”
“What else aren’t you telling me? We brought her here. If something has happened to her then we deserve to know. Unless of course she explicitly told you not to tell us.”
Her lips pursed. “She’s unconscious. She can’t make any decisions.”
“Good, so tell me.”
“Your mate is her next of kin. He is the one we should be giving this information to.”
“Oh for fucks sake,” I snapped. “Tell me if something is wrong with her so we know how to proceed.”
She hesitated for a moment before sighing. “She’d lost a lot of blood when she came. We asked for her
