My first thought was that she must’ve had the wrong patient because there was no fucking way that Scarlett was pregnant. The only person that she had ever expressed interest in was Damien and in the last month, they hadn’t been in the same place.
“No,” I said simply. “It’s not possible. She wasn’t.”
She smiled sadly. “She was, Luna. We tried everything we could to save the child, but we couldn’t. We needed to make a decision and we did. It was her life or the fetus and it was an easy choice to make. I didn’t want to say anything because it was obvious they didn’t know and-”
We’d arrived at the room.
Damien and Kai were on either side of her, holding her hand in theirs. The worry and relief on their faces was impossible to hide.
I had no idea how they’d react to the news, especially Damien. Would he be able to stomach the fact that she was pregnant? Possibly by another man?
“I should tell them,” she began but I stopped her.
“Don’t.”
“Are you sure?” she asked and I nodded.
“When will she wake up?”
“We can’t tell for sure. Hopefully she wakes up within the next twenty-four hours. It’s the best window.”
“Thank you.”
She nodded firmly. Her gaze lingered on me for a moment longer and I could tell she was thinking about my decision regarding the pregnancy but I didn’t care. I wasn’t mentioning it to either Damien or Kai, not until she was awake and could tell me the truth by herself.
I walked into the room, taking a spot next to Kai. I leaned my head against his shoulder and he wasted no time in wrapping his arms around me.
“She’s okay,” he whispered, his voice laced with relief and a twinge of disbelief. “I was so worried.”
“I know.”
“I’m going to stay in the hospital. You should go home and rest.”
I snorted.
There was no way I’d be able to stay in that house alone, not after everything that happened. Besides, I couldn’t leave Scarlett, not right now.

“You should both go home,” Damien cut in. “You’ve had a long fucking day. I can stay with her.”
“You must be insane if you think we’re leaving you here right now,” Kai cut in. “You’ll probably bark at the
nurses.”
Damien sighed. “Daisy needs to rest and it’s obvious she doesn’t want to be alone. Go with her, Kai. I’ll call you if anything changes.”
Kai pursed his lips together in a frown, clearly not pleased with what Damien was telling him, then he glanced at me, and his features softened. I hadn’t looked at myself in a mirror just yet, but I was sure I looked a mess.
“You need rest,” Kai mumbled to me softly. “Come on. I’ll take you home.”
Home was too far from the hospital. Over a half an hour’s drive.
“Can we stay at the pack house instead?” I asked. “I want to be close by, just in case.”
He nodded. “Of course princess, whatever you want.”
We didn’t trust Damien to call, so we stopped by the doctor’s office-the one that was in charge of treating Scarlett.
“Call me the moment she wakes up,” Kai told her. “Not a minute after.”
The doctor nodded. “I’ll do that.”
Once Kai was sure she’d gotten the instruction, he stood to leave. I followed him out before stopping in the middle of the hallway.
“I think I forgot something, I’ll be back.”
I didn’t give him a second to process before rushing back to the office. She was bent over a file when I walked in.
“Luna!” she exclaimed in surprise. “Did you need something?”
“If there is any information or update about… you know what, please call me. Don’t say anything to Damien or Kai.”
“Luna, I have to put my patient first.”
“Exactly. We want the same thing. I don’t want to give you an order, but I will if I have to,”
Her eyes widened in surprise but she nodded slowly. “As you wish, Luna.”
Feeling accomplished, I returned to Kai who was waiting where I’d left him.
“I thought I left my phone,” I told him. “I forgot that it wasn’t on me when I came here.”

I must have fallen asleep on the way to the pack house because the next time I came to, I was being carried up a flight of stairs.
“Sleep, princess,” Kai murmured to me. “You need your rest.”
“What I need is a bath before I get into bed,” I mumbled but I didn’t open my eyes, I just snuggled closer to him.
