I’d barely slept that night as well and instead of lying in bed, 1 sa by the window, staring out at the sun rising slowly in the sky. It was beautiful, and it almost made me forget how much was going on in my life at the moment.
In one week I’d be someone’s mate… not just anyone, Kai Thornfall
In one week I’d be Luna and Queen of the werewolves.
Fuck.
In one week, the chances of my life imploding in my face greatly increased.
Once I became Queen, Lucas would know. There was nothing stopping him from releasing that video of me. Nothing stopped him from ruining my life by spreading it.
In one week, I could lose everything unless I got rid of him. I had no idea how to even go about my revenge, and now I had a timeline on it.
The stakes just got higher.
There was another knock at the door… firmer this time.
With a sigh, I dragged myself to my feet and pulled the door open to find Scarlett on the other side of it.
“Hi,” she smiled widely. She had two leather bound books in her hands. “Did I wake you?”
“No,” I answered simply.
“Oh, well maybe you just didn’t hear me the first time I knocked
I didn’t even get the chance to respond before she breezed into my room.
“I know it’s early, but I figured you’d want a head start on this,” she began, sitting cross legged on the floor in the middle of the room. “Kai must be fucking insane to think we can plan this within a week. I nearly ripped him a new asshole yesterday when he told me. It’s going to be the most hectic-”
She stopped talking when she realized I hadn’t moved from my pot by the door and turned to me with furrowed brows.
“Why the hell are you still standing there?”
“Because I’m wondering what you’re doing in my room at six–thirty in the morning.” I crossed my arms over my chest. “What’s going on?”
“We have a mating ceremony to plan, remember?”
Just like that, my worries slammed back into me with full force.
knew what flowers I wanted since I was seven years old. I’d
I’d always been that girl who dreamed of my mating ceremony dreamed about every second of it, but now that it was here, non of the excitement remained.
This was not what I envisioned for myself whenever I thought about it, and that thought only made the whole situation more depressing.
“You can just do whatever you want,” I mumbled, lying throughy teeth. “I’m not very picky about the ceremony.”

She sighed deeply, tapping the spot next to her. “Come sit with he
“Scarlett-”
“Just humor me, okay?”
I hesitated for a moment, before sighing and obliging.

I shut the door and made my way over to her, keeping enough of a distance between us where I didn’t have to look at her. If she noticed, she didn’t say a word about it, she just opened one of the leather huge books she brought with her and slid it
over to me.
“This has everything you need to know about lycan mating ceremonies. You can read it if you want, but you don’t have to. I’ll be here to explain everything to you.”
“I already told you, Scarlett. I don’t care about the ceremony.”
“Everyone does.”
I snorted.
“Look, I know it doesn’t feel real now, but you only ever get one feremony. There will never be a do over.” She scooted closer to me. “You may think of just getting it over with right now, but years down the line, you might regret not making this yours. This probably isn’t the ideal way to get mated. I can’t say know many people whose relationships started because of revenge. It’s insane if you ask me.”
Despite my feigned indifference, the corner of my lips tugged upwards at her words.
It was insane.
“You can’t control your mate, but you can control this,” she whispered softly. “I want you to enjoy this, and so does Kai. If you decide that you don’t want to plan this, then I will do it, no questions asked, but … just give it a chance, okay?”
I didn’t speak at first. It wasn’t because I didn’t know what to say, but because I wasn’t sure if I could bring myself to say it.
“Do it,” my wolf whispered. “What’s the harm in enjoying this one thing.”
“I don’t want to forget.”
“Forget what?”
“That this isn’t real,” I hissed out. “That we aren’t a real mated couple. I don’t want to get lost in it and forget what the end
result is.”
“Who says there only has to be one result?”
Confusion filled me. “What the hell are you talking about?”
