Kai must have whispered something to him because within a minute, he was rushing inside while my mate tugged me by the arm and led me through the halls.

It felt like I was in a daze… in a dream that I couldn’t wake up from.

I couldn’t help but feel like I’d betrayed my pack and my mate to help my father, but then again, what was the next choice? To leave him to die?

I heard a door slam shut and realized that Kai had pulled us into an empty room. I opened my mouth to ask what was going on when he backed me into a wall, his hands on either side of my face.

My breath caught in my throat and every thought flew out of my mind.

“Talk to me,” he said softly. “I want to know what’s going on inside your head.”

“I don’t…” I trailed off, not knowing what to say.

I shrugged instead.

He ran his fingers through his hair with a sigh. “That’s not good enough, Daisy. I need you to say something. I can’t tell which emotions are mine and which are yours right now. I need to know if I crossed a line-”

“What?” Of all the thing I expected to hear, that was not even on my radar. “How would you have crossed a line? I was the one who crossed a line by asking you to pay. I should never have done that. It was stupid and embarrassing and-”

“Stop!” he cut me off.

I fell silent instantly, my eyes falling to the ground.

I felt his finger tap my chin softly before tilting it upwards. I locked eyes with him, expecting to see annoyance or frustration, but instead, I was met with a soft gaze and humor dancing in his irises.

“You don’t have to feel ashamed for asking me for anything.”

“A hundred thousand isn’t anything, kai,” I hissed. “Especially considering what it was for. I didn’t even ask if you had that much-”

“Trust me, I have much more.”

“This isn’t funny Kai.”

I couldn’t understand how he was finding the situation humorous at all.

He sighed and stepped even closer to me.

At this point, I could feel every rough edge of his body against mine, I could smell his cologne and feel his hot breath fanning my face.

“My money is your money,” he said simply. “You’re my mate, and I have more money than I can ever spend in my lifetime. I have businesses remember? Personal and pack related. We also have businesses in the human world.”

“It’s still your money.”

He smiled softly. “Have you checked your account at all?”

I shook my head.

“Perhaps you should. You’d be surprised to find that you have some investments of your own.”

He kissed me softly and without another word, turned to leave.

It took me a second to realize what he’d just said, and once I did, I ran after him.

“What do you mean by investments? What did you do?”

He just shrugged.

I pulled out my phone and quickly downloaded the bank app. It took me a few minutes to figure out how to log into it. Kai didn’t offer me any help, he just steered me into the car and started driving home.

We were halfway to the house when I finally got it to work and my mouth fell open in shock.

“Is this some kind of joke?” I asked.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw his lips curve up into a smile.

“Kai! Tell me this is some kind of mistake. Perhaps there’s an extra zero or-”

He peered over my shoulder to stare at my screen. “Nope, you’re seeing it perfectly.”

“This can’t… I— why?”

I couldn’t even form proper words meanwhile Kai was chuckling under his breath.

I knew he was giving me money, but I didn’t think it was this much. I figured it would be a couple hundred dollars a month, not hundreds of thousands. What the fuck was I to do with that much money?

Tears began to blur my vision before I even realized what was happening and a small sob left my lips.

Kai’s head snapped to me instantly and he cursed, pulling the car off the road immediately. I tried to stop the tears, but they just kept falling.

“Baby, this isn’t a sad thing,” he whispered softly, hands wrapping around me. “Why are you crying?”

“Because I’m pregnant you idiot and you did something unbelievably stupid and sweet and-”

He laughed. “Of course, blame the baby.”

I smacked his shoulder, eliciting another loud laugh from him.
