She stepped out of the pack house in a floral dress that stopped lightly above her knees. It was white, and the designs on her dress were the exact shade of yellow as her hair which was pinne back from her face.
She looked ethereal. She had the kind of beauty that could bring a man to his knees, but she didn’t even know it. She tucked a stray strand of hair behind her cars, keeping her eyes glued to the ground as she made her way over to the car.
“I was hoping you’d leave because I was late,” she mumbled as she got in.
I glanced at my watch. She was only late by ten minutes.
What kind of assholes had she been with in the past?
“Even if you were late by an hour, I would have waited.”
She didn’t say anything in response to that, but I didn’t need her to.
We drove in silence, her eyes taking in the scenery as I drove past. I slowed down a little, not caring that we would be late for our reservation. I wanted her to breathe in the flowers.
Out of the corner of my eye, I watched her eyes flutter closed as she let out a deep breath.
I committed the picture into my memory.
She looked at ease like this. She didn’t have that crease in her brows and for once, her shoulders weren’t squared like she was carrying the weight of the world on them. If I could’ve stayed like that forever, I would have.
As the car pulled to a stop at the restaurant, her smile slowly faded. I itched the smooth out the crease on her forehead, but I forced my hands to remain by my sides.
I’d picked a simple café. It was one of my favorite places to have takeout.
My mum used to take me there when I was younger and my father was in one of his moods. She’d buy me the chocolate chip pancakes and I would forget all about the fact that the old bastard had whipped me with his belt the night before.
It had bittersweet memories, but I just couldn’t stop myself from going back.
“Your majesty,” the hostess bowed as soon as she saw us. “Your table is ready.”
She led us into the café and towards the back door where a table was already set for us overlooking the fountain.
The interior walls had been the same cream color for years, and he interior hadn’t changed once. It was still the same tiled floors with juke boxes that had long since stopped working.
Daisy took it all in and I carefully watched her expression. I couldn’t wait until we were mated and I could know what she was thinking without having to stress. She had a very expressive face, but when she wanted, she could lock down her emotions until she resembled a marble statue.
“It’s beautiful,” she whispered after a moment of silence. “It’s so tro.”
A small smile tugged at my lips. “I’m glad you like it.”
“I would’ve expected it to be busier. There aren’t a lot of places like this.”
“It’s usually packed to the brim. You have to make reservations get in here.”
This was one of the most exclusive places in the pack. It was old and the quality had remained solid over time.

Chapter 16
The fact that my mother dined here a lot also helped to boost their sales a lot
As we approached our table, the hostess turned to us.
“A server will be here to take your orders,” she said, leaving us alone in silence.
Once she was gone, Daisy leaned forward on her elbows. “If it’s sutally so busy, why is it empty today?”
I couldn’t believe she hadn’t put two and two together yet.
“Because I rented the whole place out for breakfast.”
She stopped in her tracks. “You what?”
I shrugged.

I wasn’t sure why she was acting shocked. It wasn’t like I didn’t have the money. I made more than I could spend in a lifetime from my human businesses, much less the ones I had in our world. This was barely a drop in the ocean.
As the daughter of a Beta, I would’ve expected that she be used to extravagant purchases, but it was clear that there was a lot I didn’t know about her.
“That was a waste of money,” she hissed. “Why would you do that?”
“Because I knew you wouldn’t be comfortable having breakfast around so many people.”
“That’s not a good enough reason. You can’t spend that much money on me.”
“Why not?” I asked, turning to face her. “Give me one good reason.”
“Because!”
I shook my head with a sigh. “You better get used to me spending this much on you, Daisy, because I’m going to keep doing
it.”
“Why?” she sounded exasperated. “And don’t say it’s because I’m your mate.”
I exhaled deeply.
