However, I sat in the room for ten minutes straight, staring at the wall and wondering what the hell had happened in the past thirty minutes. I was going to be living with Kai.
I knew that was inevitable seeing as we’d be mated, but I though I had a few more days to come to terms with it. The thought terrified me, but not for the reasons it should. It was hard enough to ignore the mating bond now, being in his home… that would be much worse.
“You could always stop ignoring it,” my wolf drawled. “Just take advantage of the situation.”
“Of course you’d say that.” I rolled my eyes at her. “We have more important things to think about, so focus.”
She grumbled, but said nothing, and I finally grabbed my bag, exiting the room.
Kai didn’t say a word when I met him outside the pack house. He just took the bag from me, loaded it into the back of the car and drove off. I could tell he was annoyed at something, but couldn’t tell if it was directed at me or not, so for my own sanity, I stayed silent, twiddling my fingers in my lap.
His home was a bit of a distance from the pack house, and isolated too.
I’d be lying if I said my heart didn’t pick up when we began to dive on the lonely forest road. It took everything for me to not ask any questions as my throat dried up. However, when I finally saw the house, my eyes widened and my mouth dropped open.
It was a massive two–story house with stone like features and vines growing all over the sides. It looked like a cottage, but… bigger. There was a fucking chimney with smoke coming out of it, and it was protected by a large gate.
“My grandfather built it,” Kai said, noting my wide–eyed look. “He passed it onto my mother when she mated with my father.”
“Is this your childhood home?”
“Fuck no,” his face screwed up. “I haven’t set foot in my childhood home since my father passed.”
His voice was hard and twisted with rage. I couldn’t blame him considering what he’d told me about his dad.
“My mother loved this place. She didn’t want to taint it with the presence of my father. He hated it though. He wanted to tear it down but it was in her name and he legally couldn’t do anything unless she allowed him.”
I took in the beautiful architecture. “It’s amazing.”
“Thank you.”
The inside was even more beautiful. It was strangely modern. I hadn’t expected the pristine couches and marble tables when I walked into the house. It took a second for me to come to term with it, but I realized that it didn’t look that bad.
I followed Kai up the stairs and towards a pair of oak doors. Heshed it open, revealing a room easily twice the size of the ⚫ one I had in my old pack. A large king sized bed was at the far end of the room. There were two doors to my left that I assumed led to the closet and bathroom, to the right was a workable and a door that led out to a beautiful balcony.
“This is your room,” Kai said, placing my bag on the chair by the large vanity. “Mine is at the end of the hall.”
“We’re not sleeping together?” I asked and he went deathly still.t’s not that I expected us to. I was just thinking that because we’re mates, and the agreement, that you would-”

I desperately tried to explain what I meant, but I couldn’t formoherent enough thoughts, and Kai’s neutral expression wasn’t helping things
After a few seconds of babbling. I just decided to clamp my moth shut.
“The room is beautiful,” I managed out. “I should go to bed now
He grabbed my arm. pulling me to a stop. “Wait, Daisy.”
“Just forget everything I said before. It doesn’t matter.”
