After being caught watching him last night, I planned to wait out in my room until Kai left for work. However, at seven, he knocked on my door.
“If you’re not down in fifteen minutes, I’m coming in.”
There was no ‘good morning, no pleasantries, just one simple threat, and he was gone. I thought about calling his bluff, bur ! knew better than that. Kai didn’t make empty threats, at least no with me.
I joined him at exactly fifteen minutes. He was standing by the kichen counter, sipping on a cup of coffee and his lips curled when he realized that I’d joined him,
“Pancakes,” he said simply, gesturing to the plate in the center of the room. “I’m going to take you to the venue for the mating ceremony today. Scarlett will meet you there. She says she has a few things she needs to show you.”
I nodded slowly, trying not to think about being mated to him. I had only a few more days to get used to the idea.
“Would we have to… you
know?”
His brows furrowed. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
My cheeks turned a bright shade of pink. This wasn’t the kind of conversation I thought I’d be having so early in the morning, but it was best to get it out of the way now, rather than be faced with expectations I couldn’t live up to in the future.
“You know what I mean,” I mumbled slowly. “Do we need to… do it? to complete the bond?”
Awareness settled over his features, and he burst out laughing. The sound bounced off the walls, and his shoulders shook from the force of his laughter.
“Say the word, Daisy,” he managed out once he’d caught his breath. “You’re an adult.”
I shoved a forkful of pancakes into my mouth. “I don’t have to. You’re being childish.”
“You’re the one who won’t say the word sex.”
My skin heated even further. “Can you just answer the question?
He placed his mug on the counter and made his way over to me. The hair on the back of my neck stood on edge as he stepped in front of me, between my spread legs. He was so close that I could hear the pounding of his heart and feel the heat from his skin on mine.
I tried to focus anywhere else but his bulging biceps and chiseled jaw, but there wasn’t much to stare at. Finally, I lifted my eyes to his, and a small gasp left me when I saw the burning intensity in his eyes.
“Yes, we will need to consummate the mating bond at some point,” he began slowly. “And there is not a chance in hell that I’m going to be mated to you for life and not fuck you.”
“Sex, Kai,” I corrected. “You don’t have to be so crude.”
“Trust me, I used the right word,” he drawled, leaning closer. “Does that bother you?”
I swallowed deeply, trying to force myself to say the word yes. I new if I did, he’d step back. He’d hate it, but he would never force me to do anything. It was the ultimate survival tactic, andet, I couldn’t bring myself to say it.
I opened and closed my mouth a few times, but the word would come out. My entire skin was alight with desire, it buzzed underneath me like a sharp current. Through my shirt, my nipples pebbled and my throat dried.

Chapter 22
“What’s wrong, Daisy?” he teased, his hand brushing my hair back from my shoulder “Cat got your tongue?”
“No.”
He cocked his head to the side “Really?”

His hand wrapped around my throat, tilting my head back until my lips were mere inches away from his. I exhaled deeply. trying to keep myself from doing or saying something wildly inappropriate.
I had no idea how we got here. Things went from zero to a hundred in mere seconds. That was why I was worried about living with him in the first place.
He lowered his mouth, until we were practically breathing the same air, and a small whine filled the air. It was only when he chuckled that I realized the sound came from me.
“Do you need something, princess?” he teased, amusement dripping from his tone.
I couldn’t speak even if I wanted to. It was like I’d lost all use of my tongue.
His free hand trailed over my hip, pulling me closer to him until we were almost fused together. A small groan of impatience left me.
“Relax,” he whispered.
Just when I thought he’d put me out of my misery, a loud ringing sound filled the air. I pulled back, shoving him away a bit too fiercely. He ran his hands down his face with a curse, but didn’t make a move towards me. Instead, he headed towards the sound and grabbed his phone.
