Chapter 23
I couldn’t look him in the eye after that.

Every single time I tried, I was greeted with the image of him between my thighs, his lips brushing against mine. By the time we got to our destination. I was red as a fucking tomato.
Thankfully, Scarlett was waiting outside the venue, a large clipboard in her hands and a beautiful red–haired lycan standing next to her. Seeing them together just reminded me of how unreal lycans were. They looked perfect, there wasn’t a blemish in sight.
“Finally!” Scarlett exclaimed as I stepped out of the car. “I was beginning to think that Kai was hoarding you. This is Emily. she’ll be your planner for the most part.”
I waved at her. “It’s nice to meet you.”
“Likewise, we have a lot to discuss. Come with me.”
She sounded so professional and put together. I couldn’t help but smooth down the wrinkles on my shorts.
I didn’t know we’d be meeting anyone so I dressed casual. I hadnt even bothered to put a jacket over my tank top.
“This is where you will be having your ceremony,” Emily explained. “It is where every lycan ruler has had their ceremony for the last millennium. The wildlife here is preserved, no one touched the trees or harms the nature.”
It looked beautiful.
It was clear that someone kept the grass in the center trimmed, but other than that, the rest of the greenery was left to thrive. There were trees so high that I had to crane my neck to see the top, I could hear birds chirping in the air, and the smell of fresh grass and flowers filled my nose.
It was also clear that preparations for the ceremony had begun.
There was a large flower arch in front of me, and I could see a stack of chairs to the left. My throat clogged up with nerves, but underneath all that, there was excitement and anticipation.
“How many guests do you reckon will be here?” I asked, causing Emily to stop in her tracks.
“About a hundred, why?”
My mouth dropped open. “That’s far too much.”
She raised a brow. “You’re getting mated to the king. Did you think you’d have a small ceremony and be done with? You’re lucky we aren’t even inviting the other Alphas. For some reason, the Alpha is against it.”
I turned to Scarlett for help but she just shrugged and stepped back as if to say she didn’t have a hand in this.
“Are we going to fit all hundred into this place?” I asked and she odded.
“They’ll be arranged in order of importance. We’ll have the council, the elders, and a few of the older lycans.”
Panic bubbled up in my chest.
I couldn’t imagine standing in front of a hundred people to get hated. Werewolf ceremonies were more private. It was the couple, a priestess, and maybe two of their friends to serve as winesses.
“I can’t do a hundred.”

Chapter 23
She looked taken aback by my words. “I’m not sure if that’s something you can change. You just have to-”
“It’s my ceremony,” I cut her off. “I want to reduce the guests.”

She pursed her lips, and for a moment, I wondered if I’d overstepped. Was she one of those people that no one ever said no?
I turned to Scarlett but she was busy staring at a tree bark as if it was the most exciting thing in the world.
Realizing I was on my own, I focused my attention back on Emi who still stared at me, mouth slightly agape.
Seconds ticked by before she finally cleared her throat. “I suppose we can reduce a few people from the list.”
“Not a few, a lot. I don’t mind having the council and friends, bu I don’t need strangers.”
She frowned. “These are important people. You may regret not viting them later.”
“I’ll handle that if it ever comes to it.”
“Alright then.” She clasped her hands in front of her. “I’ll have to run the changes by the Alpha first-”
I could have let it slide, but it was clear that she was desperately trying to undermine me.
The old me would have let it slide, but I knew that leaving disrespect to foster was never a good thing. She would continue to undermine me. If I was going to be queen, I had to put aside my fear of confrontation.
“I’ll handle my mate.”
She smiled tightly.
“As you wish. I’m going to go over the order of the ceremony if you don’t mind,” she paused for a moment before continuing. “It’s important that you know what to expect.”
