There was so much I wanted to say in response to his admission, but I decided against it. It wasn’t my place to get involved in their relationship.
I’d done enough by stepping in the first time. Besides, Scarlett was an adult, and she was more than capable of handling
Damien.
I abandoned him by the poolside and made my way into the room. I took a very long, very hot shower, and as I stepped out. drying my hair with a towel, I noticed that my phone was buzzing.
If I’d just paid more attention, I would’ve noticed that it was the old phone, and I would have glanced at the caller ID before picking up.
“Hello?”
“Hello, darling.”
I froze at the sound of the voice.
The last time he called me that, it was the night I gave him my virginity. He’d whispered it with such reverence that I thought he meant well, I thought we were infinite.
I moved to hang up but he continued speaking.
“Aren’t you the least bit curious to hear what I have to say?” he drawled. “I must say, I wasn’t expecting you to go after the lycan king. Did you spread your legs for him too?”
“I’m not talking to you right now. I have nothing to say.”
“Good, because I have a lot to say. Come back to the pack, Daisy, or I will be forced to do something I don’t want to.”
“Leave me alone!”
“I thought you’d say that. I know girls like you, you’re obsessed with power. It’s why you went after me in the first place.”
I scoffed.
I never went after him. He came after me. He found me in the forest, he spoke to me. I would have never pursued him because I never thought for a moment that I stood a chance.
“If you won’t leave him, then I’ll make sure he leaves you. I made sure to send him a pretty video. I’m sure he’ll appreciate it very much.”
Everything stilled.
I couldn’t hear anything over the ringing in my ears and his laughter on the other end of the phone.
“You didn’t.”
“Oh, Daisy, I did. I can’t wait to see what the lycan does when he knows his mate is a whore.”
He hung up immediately, and the phone slipped from my hands My heart hammered in my chest as I realized the implications of his words.
I should’ve just told him when I had the chance. How the hell was I going to get him to believe me now?
Bile clawed up my throat and I barely made it into the bathroom before I vomited.

“We need to find him now,” my wolf hissed. “Maybe we can get him before he watches the video.”

I realized she was right, and not caring that I was still in my robe I rushed down the stairs. It was only once I got to the bottom that I realized I had no way to get to the pack office on my own.
“You really need to stop walking around half naked, Daisy.” Damen drawled from behind me.
I turned to him and immediately, the smile vanished from his lips.
“What happened?” he asked. “Are you okay?”
I shook my head. “I need… Kai.”
My breaths were coming out in rapid pants and my eyes were beginning to water as reality crashed into me. I’d have to leave this pack. I’d have to start all over again.
Fuck my revenge plans, there was no way I’d survive the next week on my own.
I should’ve known better. I should never have allowed myself to lower my guards. It was a fucking stupid idea.
“Daisy, breathe!” Damien ordered.
I felt his hands on my shoulders, and I tried to do as he asked, but I couldn’t. It was as if someone was squeezing my throat rightly, preventing me from getting air inside.
“Fuck,” he cursed. “Kai is going to be here soon, I just need to make sure you’re alive by the time he gets here. Tell me about the first time your dad hit you.”
My brows furrowed in confusion when his words settled. “What
“For fucks sake, just do it.”
I had to think long and hard for that one, not because it was a difficult memory, but because I couldn’t bring myself to focus.
“I was ten, I think. I broke one of his favorite mugs. I had welts on my hands and had to stay in all week until they healed.”
“The first time my dad hit me, I was six,” he told me. “He was trying to teach me to fight. I didn’t want to though, I wanted to play on the beach with my friends.”
I wasn’t sure why he was telling me that, but it was working, because my chest slowly loosened and my breathing felt a bit more steady.
I couldn’t shake the worry and anxiety though, and with each second that Kai wasn’t here, I couldn’t help but feel like my world was crashing down.
“Do you want to tell me what’s going on?” he asked once I was calm.
I shook my head. “I just need to talk to Kai. Where is he?”
He shrugged. “I don’t know, but I called him. He should be here -”
The front door slammed open and heavy footsteps filled the air
Damien stepped back immediately, shoving his hands into his packets and quickly disappearing through the back door. It wasn’t until Kai appeared that I realized why.
His hair was rough, as if he’d run his fingers through them, and is eyes were wild and filled with so many emotions that 1
couldn’t focus on one.
