In the short time I’d known Daisy, one thing I’d come to realize was that she was always put together.

It didn’t matter what she was feeling: anger, lust, sadness; she always kept her cool, or at least, tried to.

The woman in front of me was an emotional mess, her eyes were wild and filled with tears, she was breathing fast, as if struggling to catch her breath, and she kept rambling on and on bout something I didn’t understand.

I’d never felt as helpless and frenzied as I did watching her like that. If we were mated, I’d be able to know what exactly was wrong, I’d be able to feel her, but right now, all I had to go on was her frenzied state and garbled words that didn’t make

sense.

She didn’t respond to my first statement so I repeated it again, stepping closer to her.

“You said you got a message,” she managed out and I nodded. “What did it say?”

That message was the least of my fucking worries right now, but for the sake of peace, I sighed.

“Some bullshit about how you are a member of their pack and they want you back. It was a mail and I deleted it. What does that have to do with anything?”

She went deathly still for a moment, and then she laughed. It was a shaky laughed, and mid-way it cracked into a sob.

“Gosh, I feel so stupid,” she muttered, hitting her forehead with her palm. “I was overreacting for nothing.”

She’d gone from zero to a hundred in seconds, and I was left feeling more confused now than I was when she was crying. She wiped at her tears and tried to take a step back from me.

“I’m

sorry about all of this. It never should have happened. I’m just going to go-”

“Go?” I asked, grabbing her arm and pulling her to a stop. “You were nearly crying. You were crazed out of your damned mind, and you’re telling me that you’re just going to fucking leave?”

Now it was my turn to be pissed because what the fuck?

I gave her the space to have her secrets. The last thing I wanted was to smother her and force her to reveal anything before she was ready, but I’d be damned if I let her walk away from this conversation without telling me the truth.

“That’s why I apologized,” she mumbled. “I thought Lucas had told you something, but he hasn’t and it doesn’t matter-”

“I fucking ran from the border, Daisy!” I exclaimed. “I thought something was happening to you and I was losing my fucking mind because I’m not mated to you yet and I couldn’t feel you. lon’t give a fuck that Lucas didn’t tell me because you’re going to, right fucking now.”

“Kai-”

“No,” I cut her off. “Whatever it is has to be huge to make you fuking crash out this way, and what’s to say he won’t hold it over your head later? Tell me what it is.”

She shuffled awkwardly on her feet, “I don’t… I can’t.”

“You can, just open your mouth and say the words.”

“It’s not that simple.”

I was sure I’d already lost at least ten years off my life because of Daisy. She made me want to pull my hair out from my fucking scalp sometimes.

“For fucks sake. Daisy, stop being so stubborn. This isn’t about just you anymore. I’ve been patient as hell, I’ve let you do what you want, I’ve let you keep your secrets and your space, but this is my pack, you’re going to be Queen and Luna of my pack, and I don’t want any surprises. If you want your damned revenge, then you’re going to have to grow a pair of fucking balls and tell me what the hell Lucas has to blackmail you with o so help me-”

Silence fell between us.

Whatever I wanted to say died on my throat and I just stared at her, my mouth open.

She wasn’t looking at me anymore. Her hands were crossed over her chest and her eyes were trained on the ground in front of her. She looked uncomfortable as hell, her cheeks were tinged pink and she was clutching the edges of her robe.

“A tape of you?” I asked slowly and she nodded.

“Both of us. We were… together for a while.”

“I didn’t know about this. I thought the Alpha’s son seeing someone would be public news.”

“He said he wanted to keep it secret and I believed him.” She snorted. “Turns out he was just waiting for me to put out and when I did, he filmed it and sent it to his friends.”

Rage coursed through me at her words. “He what?”

Her first time should have been fucking magical. He didn’t deserve to have that part of her, not even on his best fucking behavior, and yet, he’d taken advantage of it.

I couldn’t bring myself to say what he’d done or even think about it.

“And you just forced her to admit it,” my lycan hissed. “You should have made her feel safe.”

Shame filled me at his words. “I didn’t know that’s what she was going to say.”

“It doesn’t matter. She is our mate. It is our job to protect her, not put her on the spot like that.”

He didn’t wait for me to respond, he just slammed a wall between us. His anger was evident and I knew that I’d spend the next few days groveling because of it,

“Daisy,” I began but she held up a hand to stop me.

“It’s why I left. It’s why I wanted my revenge. Everyone saw it. I came the pack slut in a matter of minutes. I was furious, okay? I felt betrayed because I loved him… or at least, I thought lid, and he told me he loved me. He told me I was going to be his Luna, but the very next day, he was laughing with his fries about what an easy lay I was.”
